Everything We Know So Far

NEED TO KNOW

  • Season 1 of Alien: Earth premiered on FX in August 2025 and aired its final episode on Sept. 23
  • The series marked the first time the Alien franchise was adapted for the small screen
  • Though Alien: Earth hasn’t been renewed for a second season yet, creator Noah Hawley said he has “a destination in mind”

The future of Alien: Earth has yet to be determined. But as Wendy (Sydney Chandler) and her ragtag team of soldiers have learned, nothing in the Alien universe is as it seems.

Alien: Earth premiered on FX in August 2025, with Chandler leading the cast as the first humanoid robot infused with human consciousness. When she and her team are dispatched to investigate a mysterious spacecraft crash site, they realize the wreckage holds more questions than answers.

That, and some new alien life forms even more terrifying than the Xenomorph.

“I had to bring back the feeling of discovery of the lifecycle of a creature that every time you thought it had gotten as brutal and awful as it could get, it got worse,” Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley told Business Insider in August 2025. “And I couldn’t do that with a Xenomorph anymore.”

The introduction of a broader monster ecosystem expanded the potential for more stories within the Alien franchise — including a second season of Hawley’s series.

So, will there be a season 2 of Alien: Earth? Here’s everything to know about the future of the hit sci-fi show.

FX hasn’t announced whether or not it will renew Alien: Earth for a second season. However, the network has already made it clear that the show is a bigger priority over Hawley’s other popular projects, like Fargo.

“We’re pretty bullish on Alien: Earth,” FX chairman John Landgraf told Variety in July 2024. “And we’ve told him that assuming, as we hope, Alien: Earth is a returning television series, we want him to focus on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of Fargo.”

If a second season was ordered, most of the original cast would be expected to return (so long as their characters made it out of season 1 alive). In addition to Chandler, that would include Alex Lawther as Hermit, Essie Davis as Dame Sylvia, Babou Ceesay as Morrow and Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier.

Timothy Olyphant, who plays Wendy’s mentor Kirsh, joked with GQ that he’d need a refresher on the unique eccentricities he brought to his character if they filmed any more episodes.

“You can give AI any sort of personality,” he told the outlet in September 2025. “The fun of the job was seeing how far I could push what I don’t associate as robotic or synthetic behavior into the performance and people would still feel like, no, that just must be the guy.”

The actor added, “And even now thinking about going back to film [a season 2], I’m not exactly sure what I did. But it felt good when we were doing it.”

Though the show’s future hasn’t been confirmed, Hawley already has it mapped out. The Alien: Earth creator told Collider in September 2025 that he knows exactly where he wants to take the story next.

“I mean, I think that I have a destination in mind story-wise, which allows me to know what the story is I’m telling, what it means,” he said. “And I don’t know how long it takes to get there, but I do have a sense of where we go in success.”

Hawley continued, “And you know, the question becomes: how streamlined can we make the process so that you’re not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?”
