A mom of three said she broke her leg at a trampoline park and underwent surgery after shattering her knee into “pieces” when she landed on a metal divider.

Kirsten Browning, a life coach from Idaho, detailed her injury in an Instagram video, saying that while her sister was home for spring break in March they visited a trampoline park when the weather was poor.

“We wanted to end the trip with a shebang, except we ended up with a bang, just not the sh part,” Browning said. Her injury, she explained, happened when they were jumping on a trampoline game called Wipeout.

“It has this rotating beam … and there’s eight sections of trampoline, all divided by metal bars. And you’re in this ring, in this octagon ring,” she said. “The goal is to either jump over this beam or to duck under it as it comes around.”

She continued, “We’re all playing successfully and my very last jump, I jumped over the beam, like cleared it, came down, my right leg landed on that metal divider in between the trampoline sections, completely cracked and crunched it.”

Browning explained more in another post, saying, “There were loud crunches and cracks. People across the game thought the machine broke … I thought I could move myself. I could not. 911 was called.”

After scans at the hospital, she said, “I was told my knee is ‘in pieces’ and I have a ‘severely comminuted tibial plateau fracture. Schatzker type V,’ “ meaning her tibia was also broken into several pieces, and both sides of the knee were broken.

“Ortho called today to schedule me first thing in the morning and said, ‘It’s so severe they’ll probably take you straight back for surgery,’ “ Browning said.

Her bones, she explained in another video, were “powder and pieces” — but surgery was delayed after doctors discovered a blood clot, requiring Browning to take blood thinners before she was able to have surgery.

After undergoing physical therapy, she had to relearn to walk, explaining, “I used to walk without thinking about it. Now every step is a celebration.”

Browning did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for additional comment.

It took Browning four months before she was able to drive again. She explained that she didn’t post about her injury at first because she was “deep in the hurt phase” and struggling with a “crazy roller coaster” of “not being able to do anything for myself” and “watching my kids worry about me.”

But, Browning said on Instagram, she wanted to share her recovery journey “because I think it might help somebody who might be going through an unexpected chapter in their life.”
