Travis Kelce Gets into Heated Sideline Confrontation with Coach Andy Reid

  • Travis Kelce got in another heated exchange with Chiefs coach Andy Reid during their game against the Giants on Sunday, Sept. 21
  • The NFL star and his head coach were seen yelling and bumping chests
  • Kelce has had tense moments with Reid in previous games

Travis Kelce was fired up for Sunday Night Football — and coach Andy Reid took the brunt of it.

The Kansas City Chiefs star had a heated exchange with Reid just before halftime of the game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

The interaction came after Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker — who nearly botched the his first field goal when it hit the upright but fell inside the goal posts, and then made his second — missed on his third attempt of the game from 40 yards out.

With the Chiefs up 6-0 but not finding the end zone, the tight end, 35, was seen yelling in Reid’s ear about the team’s offensive struggles after the coach bumped him on the shoulder.

“You can sense the frustration on both sides of that story,” Sunday Night Football play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico said as the cameras panned to the Chiefs sideline.

The Chiefs went on to win the game 22-9, grabbing their first win of the season after lackluster play against the Chargers in Brazil and Eagles last week at Arrowhead Stadium.

In both games, Kelce’s contributions impacted the outcome.

In São Paulo, the NFL star inadvertently collided with star wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the opening minutes, injuring the Texas product and dealing yet another blow to the team’s depth chart at WR, since Rashee Rice is serving a six-game suspension pegged to a high-speed car crash in 2024.

In week 2, Kelce bobbled a pass near the end zone in the fourth quarter that likely would have ended in a Chiefs touchdown and could have shifted the momentum with the team down, 13-10. The Chiefs ended up losing the Super Bowl 2025 rematch, 20-17.

On Sunday night, Reid was unbothered about Kelce’s intensity.

“I mean, he’s a passionate guy and I love that part,” Reid told reporters. “I’ve been through a lot of things with him, so that’s all part of it. I love that he loves to play the game, that’s what I love. And it’s an emotional game, so I’ll take it.”

Kelce and Reid have had tense moments during games before, notably during the 2024 Super Bowl.

After he bumped into Reid and screamed at him, causing the coach to stumble, Kelce later shared that he “crossed the line” in his outburst.

“I’m a passionate guy. I love Coach Reid, Coach Reid knows how much I love to play for him, how much I love to be a product of his coaching career,” Kelce said on his podcast New Heights after the incident.
