The 2000 film, directed by Peyton Reed and written by Jessica Bendinger, follows Rancho Carne High School senior and newly crowned head cheerleader Torrance (Dunst) as she navigates leading her squad to Nationals — all the while dealing with the moral dilemma presented upon learning that the Toros’ routines have been stolen from the nearby underfunded East Compton High School’s Clovers, led by head cheerleader Isis (played by Union).

Dunst, 43, recently made headlines when she shut down any possibility of returning as her cheerleader protagonist Torrance Shipman in a potential Bring It On sequel 25 years later.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of returning while at a New York City screening of her new movie Roofman on Monday, Sept. 8, Dunst said: “No. I’m like, leave good things where they are.”

“I don’t need to put on a cheerleading outfit,” she added. “I don’t even know what I would do — be a coach or something? Nah. Let’s leave it as is.”

Dunst’s latest comments come as she previously left open the possibility of doing another film, telling Entertainment Tonight in April 2024: “I mean, it depends. “Everyone’s bringing back their stuff, right? It’s a throwback time.”

“As long as it’s not embarrassing,” the Oscar nominee said of the idea of a second film.

Bring It On spawned five direct-to-video sequels and a sixth Halloween-themed installment on TV, all featuring new cast members, as well as a Broadway musical, but no follow-up so far that has featured any of the original cast.
