Jana Kramer Has ‘Learned’ to Keep Some of Her ‘Private Life Private’ (Exclusive)

Jana Kramer walks a delicate line when it comes to her popular podcast, Whine Down. She wants to be an open book about her life, but she also respects her husband and children’s privacy.

“I’m definitely an oversharer, but I think what I’ve learned differently, this go around, especially with our relationship, we’re not as open as I would open up previously,” Kramer told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview during the second night of the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on Sept. 20, referring to her marriage to Allan Russell.

“I think it’s important to not share so much, so I’ve learned the lesson with that, to let some of our private life be private,” continued the One Tree Hill alum.

Russell, Kramer added, is less comfortable than her when it comes to opening up about their lives. “That kind of was hard for me at first, but I now see the value in that,” the mother of three said.

Despite a never-ending rumor mill, Kramer told PEOPLE that she and Russell are usually able to just brush inaccuracies off, but it can still be a struggle.

“Unfortunately, that’s the hard part. That’s the hard part about doing the podcast, because things get taken out of context,” she explained.

Just last month, many thought Russell was on a dating app, which Kramer thought was “hilarious.”

“He’s so wildly different from my ex,” Kramer, who was married to ex Mike Caussin from 2015 to 2021, said.

She continued of Russell, “He always says, ‘What’s in the four walls?’ Whenever I would get upset about it, he’s like, ‘What’s the truth in the four walls?’ And that’s all that really matters, our kids, and that’s it.”

Russell and Kramer got married in July 2024 after welcoming their first child together, son Roman, in November 2023.

Kramer is also a mother to two children she shares with Caussin — daughter Jolie, 9, and son Jace, 6.
