Woman Leaves Friend’s Wedding Early After They ‘Forgot’ Her Vegetarian Meal

  • A woman picked the vegetarian option when selecting the food for her friend’s wedding
  • During the dinner, she learned there was nothing for her to eat
  • After the speeches, the woman left the wedding

A woman left her friend’s wedding after realizing there was nothing for her to eat, but now she is having second thoughts about it.

The 30-year-old woman, a vegetarian, shared in a Reddit post that her 29-year-old friend, the bride, has always known about her dietary restrictions. When the poster RSVP’d to the wedding, she “checked the vegetarian option box.”

However, they seemingly “forgot” to have a meal she could eat when the day finally arrived.

“At the reception, when dinner was served, my plate came out with chicken. I flagged it and the server said they didn’t have any vegetarian meals prepared,” the woman writes.

Without a main course to enjoy, the woman “ended up eating bread and salad while everyone else had a full dinner.” She stayed for the speeches, but then quietly slipped out and went home to eat when the dancing started.

“The next day, the bride texted me saying she noticed I left early and that it was ‘hurtful,'” she recalls. “I told her honestly that I felt excluded and hungry all night. She got defensive and said I was ‘overreacting over food’ and should’ve just ‘enjoyed the moment.’ “

Although the woman is still “upset” about the situation, now she feels “guilty” and wonders if she is in the wrong for leaving.

People in the comments section were surprised that the venue didn’t offer her any meat-free options, especially after listing it as an option on the original menu.

“I have catered wedding events. It’s just unbelievable to me that the venue did not have anything vegetarian they could put together at short notice,” one user replied. “I always had one spare for each dish and allowed for vegetarian and last-minute gluten-free diets. The contract may say strictly the number of plates ordered – but we’ve all been in situation of someone dropping a plate of food, someone getting sick, someone having a dietary issue.”

Others were just as shocked that her friend texted her angrily instead of checking in to make sure she was okay.

“My partner and I left a wedding early last weekend because he was feeling unwell. We didn’t make a fuss, just slipped out. The next day, the groom texted to make sure we were both okay,” another added. “I find it a bit strange that the OP’s friend didn’t ask if they were alright before going on the attack and talking about being hurt.”
