What September’s Solar Eclipse Means for Your Zodiac Sign

Prepare for big changes as September’s upcoming new moon doubles as a solar eclipse.

Celebrity astrology Kyle Thomas explains to PEOPLE, “Solar eclipses bring intense changes, which is why we always pay more attention to them both astronomically and astrologically.” A solar eclipse is three times more powerful than a normal new moon as “they blast open a door to us as we embrace new opportunities, projects, plans and horizons,” Thomas says.

The solar eclipse will happen on Sept. 21 in Virgo, meaning it will greatly affect mutable signs: Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces.

Thomas says you might get major news on that day or in the weeks surrounding it. Situations arriving with their eclipse could also be connected to the previous new moon on Aug. 23, at the beginning of Virgo season. 

Since the solar eclipse is in Virgo, Thomas says, “The energy of this elemental Earth sign will be quite prominent in our lives at this time.” He adds that Virgo aligns with “our daily routines, responsibilities and employment,” and anything having to do with rules and order. 

As eclipse season continues, the effects of the solar eclipse could echo until Oct. 21. Thomas says, “This lunation will bring significant challenges to some people, while others may feel destiny redirecting them in majestic ways.” That’s because it’s exactly opposite Saturn, the planet of structure, and Neptune, the planet of spirituality.

Oppositions, Thomas explained, “usually trigger hardship, roadblocks and conflict with someone of significance.” That means you could get bad news, get tricked or fall for an illusion.

However, Thomas says, “the lunation is trine Uranus, revealing that if we think outside of the box and try to find unique solutions, we may be rewarded.”

It’s also trine Pluto, which means that if we find a need for “rebirth,” it could lead to “radical transformation.” The lunation is also in a conjunction with Mercury, which should get your creative juices flowing when it comes to new ideas and brainstorming. 

Remember, you shouldn’t manifest during eclipse season. Thomas says the energy during eclipses is “incredibly chaotic, intense, and high-powered.” Instead, focus on what comes up for you naturally. Thomas says this time is all about trusting your own intuition.

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries, get ready for fresh starts when it comes to health, productivity and employment.

Thomas says, “You may start a new job, milestone project or routine. If you are to leave a job, you’re being pushed to find a better place that appreciates you more.” If you’re in the position to hire someone, now is a great time. Thomas adds, “This is an excellent time to launch a new physical health endeavor, such as fitness, diet, or exercise plan, too.”

Taurus (April 19-May 20)

It’s all about romance for you right now, Taurus.

“A destined new beginning around matters of the heart has arrived,” Thoma says. “The solar eclipse is bringing a jolt of passion to you around romance, true love, hobbies, fertility or creativity.” Singles could find a soulmate and there could be good news around family planning. If you’re an artist, this is a very creative time for you. 

Gemini (May 20-June 20)

Gemini, keep your eyes at home, where Thomas says you could have “vast news.”

He explains, “A breath of fresh air could push you to move, renovate, relocate or redecorate.” The eclipse could also bring news around real estate. But Thomas warns that this eclipse might mean you need to turn your eyes toward family matters, where you’ll need to step in. 

Cancer (June 20-July 22)

This is a super creative time for you, Cancer.

Thomas says, “Prepare for a surge of new ideas and activity! The solar eclipse energizes your communications and intellect.” That might mean debuting a major writing or speaking initiative or putting together a major contract. You also might be inspired to get out of town and travel and to bring a sibling with you. 

Leo (July 22-Aug. 22)

Leo, you’re in the money now.

“A big shift around your finances is here!” Thomas says. You may suddenly be able to bring in more money due to a raise, side hustle or new job offer.” But if, instead, a job or side hustle ends with this eclipse, it’s time to assess your finances and find a better employer. 

Virgo (Aug. 22-Sept. 22)

Virgo, you’re wrapping up your season with a bang.

Thomas explains, “The solar eclipse ignites your zodiac sign, beginning a whole new era of your life. Sudden new beginnings, fresh starts and opportunities will dangle before you, encouraging you to take them.” The key for you is to be clear about what you want so you can carve our the next chapter.

Libra (Sept. 22-Oct. 22)

Libra, take it easy.

“You’ll be feeling the urge to rest and recharge due to the solar eclipse,” Thomas says. “This is giving you the chance to start a fresh slate in regard to your mental health.” That might mean reaching out to a therapist, counselor or specialist for some extra help to have you feeling your best.

Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21)

Scorpio, Thomas says, “A glorious new beginning awaits you!”

This solar eclipse could unlock the door to one of your major hopes or dreams. You might also expand your network, joining a new community of love and support to meet your platonic soulmate. Thomas says, “Know what fills you with joy and pursue it.”

Sagittarius (Nov. 22–Dec. 21)

It’s all about work for you, Sagittarius, as Thomas says you’re on the cusp of a new era in your professional life.

“The solar eclipse will open a doorway regarding your career, ambitions and public recognition,” he says. A major opportunity to step up the ladder may manifest, whether that’s an award, a promotion or a new job. He added, “Reach for the stars.”

Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19)

Capricorn, look to the horizon as a new start is on its way.

“The solar eclipse will help you step out of your comfort zone and see what else lies out there,” Thomas says. That might mean literally with a trip around the world, or it might mean going back to school or finding a fresh frontier with your business. 

Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18)

Your heart is open now, Aquarius.

Thomas says, “A fresh start regarding how you share, give and receive has arrived for you!” If you’re on steady ground in your relationships, you’ll discuss deepening your rapport. “You’ll feel magnetically drawn to one another,” Thomas says. You also might have some financial windfalls heading your way. 

Pisces (Feb. 18-March 20)

Pisces, your romantic life could be heating up.

“A destined new era regarding your relationships is upon you,” Thomas says. “The sudden decision to grow closer by moving in, getting engaged or being wed may now be on the table!” If you’re single, you could find someone with long-term potential now or in the months ahead. You might also find a good match in your professional life, too, during this time. 

If you’re ending a relationship now, Thomas says you’re being redirected to something better.
