Neil Patrick Harris is bonding with his teenage son about acting in plays!
At the premiere of Harris’ show ART — his first Broadway show since appearing in Peter Pan Goes Wrong in 2023 — the 52-year-old actor opened up to PEOPLE about his family of four.
“Gideon is in his school play right now. He’s in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” Harris says of his 14-year-old son, Gideon, who has a twin sister, Harper. “So it’s fun to have him watch me and to talk shop. And Harper is amazingly talented and artistic as well.”
The How I Met Your Mother alum is married to husband David Burtka, who along with the twins watched Harris’ new show at the Music Box Theatre in New York City during preview showings before they all attended the opening night on Tuesday, Sept. 16 together.

“Everyone has seen the show,” Harris says. “Harper came and saw it on Sunday, Gideon saw it by himself like three days before that and David has seen it twice, which I’m really chuffed by because I love that they’re able to come to the opening night and not say, ‘I hope it’s good,’ but sort of be representing and proud of of papa and what he’s doing.”
Aside from being a proud father, Harris also praised his husband. “David works a lot, and I’m so proud of him,” Harris says of Burtka, 50, who is also an actor as well as a chef and cookbook author.
Harris and Burtka — who met in 2004, announced their years-long secret engagement in 2011 and got married in Italy in 2014 — welcomed their “happy, healthy” twins via surrogate on Oct. 12, 2010.
