Morrissey is prioritizing his safety.

The former Smiths member’s Sept. 19 and Sept. 20 shows in Connecticut and Boston, respectively, were canceled following a “credible threat” to assassinate him on stage during a recent performance in Ottawa, Canada.

“In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life,” read a post shared to his Facebook page on Friday, Sept. 19.

Another post noted, “Due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, the upcoming shows this weekend at Foxwoods and MGM Music Hall have been cancelled.”

“All tickets will be refunded automatically at your original point of purchase,” continued the post. “We appreciate your understanding.”

The “credible threat” against Morrissey, 66, was allegedly made by 26-year-old man Noah Castellano in a post shared to the social media platform Bluesky on Sept. 4, according to a report from Ottawa Citizen citing court documents.

A Bluesky account reportedly shared the post in question under the account name “guy who gets shot in the head one hundred thousand times a day” and wrote, “Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally.”

According to Ottawa Citizen, the note matches a description of the post from court documents.

The alleged post came before Morrissey’s performance at CityFolk in Ottawa on Sept. 12, and the show went on as planned. He then held shows in Toronto and New York City on Sept. 13 and Sept. 16, respectively.

Ottawa Citizen cited court documents stating Castellano was arrested on Sept. 12 and charged with “uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.” He was released on $5,000 bail, per the outlet.

He reportedly refused to comment on the charge when reached by Ottawa Citizen, telling one of the publications reporter’s on the phone, “I’m not interested.”

Following the canceled shows, Morrissey’s tour is scheduled to continue through January with shows in cities including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Milwaukee, Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta and more.
