Margot Robbie is enjoying motherhood with her son, calling it “the best.”

The Australian actress married her husband, British film producer Tom Ackerley, in 2016. The two met on the set of the World War II drama Suite Française in 2013, and later married in an intimate ceremony in Australia.

The pair co-founded the production company LuckyChap Entertainment, which is behind films like I, Tonya, Barbie and the upcoming 2026 Wuthering Heights adaptation, each starring Robbie. Still, the Big Bold Beautiful Journey star keeps her personal life private.

Eight years after exchanging wedding vows, Robbie and Ackerley started a family. In the summer of 2024, the actress was seen with a bump, and shortly after, PEOPLE confirmed that she was expecting her first child. The couple kept details about the pregnancy private until news broke that she gave birth that same fall.

Since then, Robbie has continued to maintain a low profile, opting not to share her son’s name and birthdate. That said, he has unexpectedly been heard in the background, including during an interview.

She revealed her baby bump in July 2024

Robbie and Ackerley kept the pregnancy under wraps, though the actress was spotted with a baby bump on a few occasions, including at Wimbledon, a red carpet event and during an outing in Los Angeles.

In July 2024, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE that they were expecting their first child.

Notably, Robbie was pregnant while filming A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside her costar Colin Farrell, but one set source told PEOPLE that month that “no one suspected” her pregnancy.

She gave birth toward the end of 2024

Robbie and Ackerley welcomed their son in the fall of 2024 and have kept details about their baby private, choosing not to share their son’s name, birthday or photos publicly.

But even before the two married, Robbie told The Daily Telegraph in 2016 that she always wanted “tons of children.”

“I grew up in a family of four [kids], so that sounds like a good number,” she told the outlet, referencing her two older siblings and one younger brother. “We’ll see what happens … I know that once I have kids, they’ll be my priority.”

She and Ackerley took time to settle into being parents

A source close to Robbie and Ackerley told PEOPLE in the fall of 2024 that they were “settling into” life as parents.

“They waited a long time to get pregnant, so it was almost unbelievable when the baby actually arrived,” the source said. “They’ve both been settling into being parents.”

Robbie previously said that she and Ackerley were waiting to have children. In November 2018, Robbie told PORTER magazine that at the time she was “definitely” not yet ready to have kids, though she saw them in her future.

“If I’m looking into my future 30 years from now, I want to see a big Christmas dinner with tons of kids there,” she said. “But definitely not at the moment. That’s 100 percent certain.”

She enjoyed spending time at home with her family

Shortly after welcoming their son, an exclusive source told PEOPLE that Robbie and Ackerley were “homebodies” enjoying spending time at home.

“They have been hanging out in [Los Angeles] as a family,” the source told PEOPLE, adding that “Tom’s mom has been visiting from England.”

Though Robbie had projects lined up for the year — including Wuthering Heights — she was soaking up the downtime.

“She wants to rest now and spend time with the baby,” the source continued. “She’s enjoying motherhood.”

After months at home in L.A., Robbie and Ackerley were spotted at the beach on Australia’s Gold Coast in April 2025 and in Naples, Italy, in July 2025.

She was interrupted by her son during an interview

While speaking to Access Hollywood about A Big Bold Beautiful Journey in August 2025, Robbie was interrupted by her then 10-month-old son in the middle of a conversation.

After he was heard crying in the background, the actress took the opportunity to share that she was often still in awe when talking about him.

“I’m so sorry about that … how loud my baby is,” she told the outlet with a laugh.

The interviewer then asked Robbie if a part of her felt proud and excited when she heard her child. “Every time, I go, ‘That’s my baby,’ ” she said.

She calls motherhood “the best”

Though she doesn’t often mention her son, Robbie told Entertainment Tonight in August 2025 that motherhood is “the best.”

Nearly a year after welcoming her son, she was asked how parenthood enriched her life.

“It’s funny, you try to explain to someone who has kids, you don’t need to because they get it,” Robbie said. “And if they don’t, it’s probably just really boring to hear.”

Then she added about motherhood, “It’s the best.”
