Prince William knew just how to break the ice during President Donald Trump ‘s state visit with his father, King Charles, this week.

William and his wife, Kate Middleton, were responsible for officially welcoming the U.S. president and first lady Melania Trump when their helicopter, Marine One, landed on the grounds of Windsor Castle on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The Prince and Princess of Wales then walked the Trumps across the castle grounds to be officially welcomed by the King and Queen Camilla.

While facilitating the royal meetings, William slipped in a sly jab at the pomp and circumstance of the moment, telling Trump, “This is my dad,” while introducing him to the King.

The Trumps then joined the royal family in a carriage procession before enjoying lunch together inside the castle.

Following lunch, PEOPLE learned that William and Kate also had a private meeting with the Trumps. While the palace has not shared any details on what was discussed, the meeting was described as “warm and friendly.”

Additionally, on Wednesday afternoon, Donald and Melania traveled to St. George’s Chapel, on the Windsor Castle grounds, to privately lay a wreath at the tomb of the late Queen Elizabeth. According to royal reporter Rebecca English, the Trumps spent 10 minutes in reflection at the Queen’s burial place, and President Trump called the visit a “great honor.”

However, the major focus of the Trumps’ state visit was the opulent state banquet on Wednesday night. In addition to the royal family, the guest list of over 160 attendees included U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as well as President Trump’s younger daughter, Tiffany Trump, and her husband, Michael Boulos.

In a surprising shake-up, Boulos was actually assigned to escort Princess Kate during the official procession into the banquet.

Tiffany — the only child that Donald shares with ex-wife Marla Maples — was also included in the procession; however, she was assigned a spot in the lineup five places after her husband, walking in with Apple CEO Tim Cook.

The King and Trump shared their mutual admiration for one another during their speeches at the banquet.

King Charles spoke about the “special” relationship between their two countries, adding, “I cannot help but wonder what our forebears from 1776 would make of this friendship today,” joking that President George Washington and Charles’ “five times great-grandfather,” King George III, had harsh words for each other during the time of the American Revolution.

“Today, however, we celebrate a relationship between our two countries that surely neither Washington nor King George III could possibly have imagined,” he added.

For his part, Trump called his unprecedented second state visit “truly one of the highest honors of my life.”

He also praised King Charles for his philanthropic work, marveling, “I just stood in line and shook about 150 hands, and the King knew every single person…or at least I think he did because no one was complaining. I was very impressed with that.”
