President Donald Trump is celebrating ABC indefinitely pulling Jimmy Kimmel‘s late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!
After ABC indefinitely pulled the show following comments the host made about the death of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk, the president issued a statement on Truth Social. “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible.”
Trump also took aim at late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers in his reaction, writing, “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT.”
Trump’s comments come after a spokesperson for Disney’s ABC confirmed to PEOPLE on Wednesday, Sept. 17 that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be pulled indefinitely in the wake of Kimmel’s Monday, Sept. 15 monologue where he directly addressed President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” supporters and mentioned Kirk.
Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, Sept. 10. He was 31.
A day later, Trump announced that he would posthumously award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian award in the United States, alongside the Congressional Gold Medal.

While announcing Kirk’s death on Truth Social, Trump said “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.”
During the Monday, Sept. 15 broadcast, Kimmel said, “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”
Kimmel noted that flags were ordered to fly at half-staff, but then criticized Trump for how he was grieving, joking that “he is on the fourth stage of grief.”
“This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend,” said Kimmel. “This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish. And it didn’t just happen once.”

Following the broadcast, Nexstar Media, which is the largest local broadcast and digital media company in the U.S., said it was preempting airings of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Nexstar said in a statement to PEOPLE that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”
Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, elaborated on the decision in a statement to PEOPLE, saying, “Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located.”

Alford continued, “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”
