On Sept. 3, it was revealed that Jen will be partnered with newcomer Jan Ravnik, known for his recent work on Taylor Swift‘s record-shattering Eras Tour. Whitney, meanwhile, is paired with pro dancer Mark Ballas, who has won the Mirrorball Trophy three times.

Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of the premiere, Jen opened up about sharing the experience with her costar Whitney, who is also a fellow mom of three.

“It’s been fun to have someone to lean on and someone who just gets it,” Jen shared. “She’s the only other person that’s on the same show as me, who is kind of in the same situation since she’s also a mom of three. It’s definitely been nice having her here.”

She also revealed how doing the dancing competition series has been helping her as a postpartum mom, following the birth of her third child with husband Zac Affleck.

“I think if I didn’t have Dancing with the Stars, I’d probably be dealing with baby blues and potentially postpartum depression, which can be the most challenging thing that you can experience after having a baby. So honestly, I’m just grateful I have Dancing with the Stars.”

“The way that I’ve coped through all of my babies has been through dancing, so the fact that I’m now dancing on a real stage in front of millions of people makes this experience even more exciting.”

For Whitney, she’s been excited to tap back into her dance background. Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE, she calls DWTS a “full-circle moment” as she gets to live out her childhood dreams of performing.

“When I was growing up, my family was everything when it came to my dance journey. My parents spent countless hours driving me to rehearsals and competitions, sitting through long weekends of performances, and cheering me on whether I won or lost. Their belief in me made me believe in myself,” she says.

“When I became a mom, I was so focused on my kids and family that I didn’t realize how much I missed that part of myself,” she admits.

“Now, stepping into this new chapter with DWTS, that support means even more. My family rallies around me in a different way — my husband and kids bring me so much strength and joy. It’s a full-circle moment for me,” she shares.

Dancing with the Stars season 34 airs on Tuesdays on ABC and simulcasts on Disney+. The show streams the next day on Hulu.
