Lefty University of NC students paint over Charlie Kirk tribute

Lefty college kids painted over a Charlie Kirk mural at the University of North Carolina Wilmington Tuesday — with the head of the college’s Republican group claiming he was called a “fascist” and “Nazi” by fellow students during a heated confrontation.

Members of conservative clubs at the college painted the tribute on the campus’ “spirit boulder” Monday for the slain Turning Point USA founder — only to see fellow students raring to repaint it, the school’s College Republicans president told Fox News.

The rock can be painted on behalf of various causes multiple times each week but typically, students wait 24 hours before switching things up.

The Kirk tribute was painted on Monday around 5 p.m., but by 11 a.m. the next day, one student apparently had had enough, College Republicans head Reagan Faulkner said.

“We told him he had to wait until 5,” Faulkner told Fox News.

“He said, ‘That’s just a courtesy. I don’t have to do anything for you fascists.’ He insulted one of our military members and called us Nazis. He and a friend later dumped paint on our members and the rock.”

Video blasted on social media show a young woman applying fresh blue paint to the rock while arguing with Kirk supporters, telling them “Charlie Kirk is definitely not the morals I support.”

A police officer soon arrived at the scene and spoke with the young woman, mostly off camera.

Two other students can also be seen painting over the rock.

“Does this give you peace to paint over someone’s memorial like this?” one girl asked the rabble rousers.

“What you guys are doing – you destroy things you don’t agree with, that’s why he was shot,” another student said.

UNCW said in a statement when students wanted to repaint the spirit rock, a conversation between the two sides quickly escalated and some were splashed with paint while attempting to protect it.

“The UNCW spirit rock is not a memorial. It is a platform for freedom of expression. Students typically paint the rock multiple times per week,” the school said in a statement to WWAY.

“Out of courtesy, students are asked to leave artwork for at least 24 hours before repainting, but no policy requires this.”

The school’s College Republicans club and the chapter of Turning Point USA held a vigil Monday night for Kirk that drew close to 1,000 people.

The conservative commentator was shot and killed on a Utah college campus while on a speaking tour, leaving behind his wife and two small children. Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with Kirk’s assassination.

Faulkner told Fox News she believes the school should have done more to protect students — and was proud her side practiced restraint during the tense moment.

“None of us retaliated. I believe God gave us courage and peace. We want conversation, not violence,” she said.

“We want to pick up the mic where Charlie left it, but the other side isn’t willing. They say they don’t want division or violence, but then actions like this happen. Our takeaway is — we’re open, but they won’t talk.”

In a show of unity last week, the UNCW’s College Republicans and College Democrats issued a joint statement following Kirk’s assassination condemning “all forms of senseless political violence.”
