Kate Middleton and Prince William Greet President


United States President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump are in the United Kingdom for a historic state visit.

Trump is the first elected political leader in modern times to be invited for two U.K. state visits. The late Queen Elizabeth hosted the U.S. president and his wife for a state visit in June 2019 during his first administration, and King Charles invited Trump for a second state visit earlier this year. On Feb. 27, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented Trump, 78, with the letter from the King, 76, and Trump accepted the invitation on the spot.

The prime minister said at the time, “This is really special. This has never happened before; this is unprecedented.”

After the Trumps arrived in the U.K. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, the British royal family will help host the couple over the following two days. After a formal welcome at Windsor Castle on Sept. 17, the Trumps will have lunch and view a special exhibition before visiting the burial site of Queen Elizabeth. Later in the evening, they will sport white-tie attire for a state banquet likely attended by Queen CamillaPrince WilliamKate Middleton and other members of the royal family.

Thursday’s schedule includes joint outings for Melania with Queen Camilla, followed by Melania’s joint engagement with Princess Kate, while President Trump travels to Chequers to meet with Prime Minister Starmer.
