Joy Behar And Whoopi Goldberg Clash On ‘The View’ Over Whether America Is “Screwed” Under The Trump Administration
It’s not often that Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar disagree, but on this morning’s episode of The View, the longtime co-hosts couldn’t see eye-to-eye on whether or not America is “screwed” under the Trump administration.
“I feel like we’re trapped in a bad movie,” Behar fumed during the first Hot Topics segment of the day. “You’ve got these incompetent people running the government, and we’re like a bunch of sitting ducks.”
The comedian went on to call out the “puppy killer” Kristi Noem (Secretary of Homeland Security), the “SignalGate guy” Pete Hegseth (Secretary of War), and “the brain worm” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Secretary of Health and Human Services).
“There’s no end to the incompetence that we are experiencing as Americans,” Behar added. “I can almost not even talk about individual situations like this because the overall picture and the elephant in the room is that we’re screwed.”
Goldberg, however, decided to take a more optimistic approach.
“No, we’re not screwed,” she began, before Behar chimed in, “I know you say that every day, but I feel like we are.”
Goldberg continued, “I say that everyday and yet we are still standing.” But Behar interrupted her again, muttering, “Just barely.”
Still, Goldberg stuck to her guns. “Yeah, but we’re up! Listen, lots of us have been down. We know what down is. It takes a lot to ruin a country,” she said, while Behar argued, “But Whoopi, it’s only since January. He’s got another three years to go!”
The EGOT recipient then went into a lengthy speech to contradict Behar’s negative outlook.
“People are making changes and adapting in a situation that’s meant for us to give up,” she said. “It’s put out there. They are doing things to grind us down. I see people banding, but I don’t see anybody breaking. That is what gives me the strength to keep standing.”
Before closing out the segment, Goldberg added, “God bless the Constitution. She’s holding. I don’t know for how long. But she has not broken yet.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
