Dakota Fanning is giving dating apps a try!
The Ripley star and her sister, Elle, recently appeared on the October 2025 cover of Vanity Fair and opened up about their sisterly bond, as well as their romantic relationships. The Uptown Girl actress, 31, revealed that she’s recently downloaded the invite-only dating app, Raya.
Although Elle, 27, noted that Dakota “has never done this. Ever,” Dakota interjected to explain that she downloaded the app, “for fun.” Adding, “My girlfriend made it for me … I was like, if I don’t, then I’m going to think—”
“Maybe my husband is there,” Elle said, with Dakota replying, “I can confirm that he is not.”
When asked whether she’s seen any famous faces, she said, “I haven’t seen a ton of familiar faces yet.”

Dakota rarely speaks publicly about her love life, and said dating is “horrific” in a 2016 interview with Town & Country magazine.
“I find dates, in general, horrific. We have to sit there and ask these questions and pretend to eat a meal, and it just feels so stiff.” Adding, “The way I prefer to meet someone is through a friend,” explaining that she can assume then they are “most likely not a freak.”
She also acknowledged that she’s a “very private person.”
The previous interview came the same year she and Jamie Strachan broke up after dating for two years. Then, in 2018, it was reported that she was dating Henry Frye. They were last seen photographed together in May 2018.
While Dakota prefers to keep her relationships private, her younger sister Elle shared why she’s eager to show her boyfriend, Gus Wenner.
“If your partner doesn’t post you on Instagram, that’s a red flag. I love my boyfriend, and we’re going to post each other,” she candidly told Vanity Fair.
“I’m so happy,” The Great actress said, before adding, “And Dakota loves him. That’s the seal of approval.”

The two sisters also recalled how Dakota and Wenner first met — without Elle present. Dakota and Wenner, 35, were both in Las Vegas at the same after-party while Elle was in Paris
“She turned around, and there he was. Then they had this whole night of gambling. Dakota was with all of her girlfriends, and I’m getting sent videos. She’s dancing with Gus,” Elle said.
Dakota also shared that while she had a good time with him that night, she did offer him a warning. “But I used some stern words. Just warnings, cautions said with a smile.… It went great,” she said. “He’s the brother I never had.”
