A dad is confessing that when his wife leaves for work on Saturdays, he secretly sleeps in while their 8-month-old baby daughter watches television.

The original poster (OP) noted his confession on Reddit, sharing that he and his wife are up early most days with their baby, but his wife is gone on Saturday mornings to work at a market while she’s on maternity leave.

OP admits that when his wife leaves in the morning, he gets up with their baby daughter as usual. However, when she leaves, OP grabs a pillow and a blanket and heads over to the playpen with his little one.

“I put Ms. Rachel on the TV and proceed to get cozy and pass the f— out,” OP says. “I’ll sleep for about an hour, sometimes like … 90 minutes if my daughter stays happy with Ms. Rachel.”

While OP shares he and his wife normally only let their daughter have 10 minutes of screen time per day, he says his Saturday morning nap is the “coziest, best sleep of my week.”

“The feeling of being safe in the playpen with my daughter while she’s fully occupied and content is amazing, with no judgement [sic] from my wife,” says OP. “I think [my] daughter loves it too. I grew up with Saturday morning cartoons and I turned out mostly fine.”

In his comments, OP received support from many who deemed his confession to be “hilarious.”

“Your baby lets you sleep? She doesn’t bonk you in the face with toys or press on your eyes or any of the hundreds of ways babies will torture you to wake up?” one person wrote. “Sounds like a WIN. Take them where you can find them and enjoy your daughter AND your snooze.”

Another said that as a new parent, they found the story to be “absolutely hilarious.”

“Get that nap, dude. I can’t wait for the update to this when your kiddo narcs to mom!” they joked.

However, some expressed concern over the fact that OP is sleeping while his baby daughter is still awake.

“I would be careful having a blanket around her if you’re not awake… She’s still at the age where she could suffocate in blankets,” a commenter said.

Another said that OP is clearly going against something he and his wife have agreed upon.

“Eh, I think it’s not cool,” they wrote. “Wife clearly has put restrictions on screen time because that is what she believes is best for the baby. She’s leaving the home and trusting you to parent in a way that aligns with what (she believes) you’ve BOTH agreed on.”

“Whether it’s necessary or not is neither here nor there, she believes it is and assumes you will uphold that,” they continue. “So you’re going back on that and also sleeping in which is something she probably never gets to do BECAUSE she’s upholding the screen time beliefs.”

“It’s kind of like you’re deceiving her and also being rewarded with something that I’m sure she would also love to have.”
