Man Allegedly Jumped from Building in Suicide Attempt, Killed Woman Underneath

A man in Italy faces manslaughter charges after he allegedly jumped from a building in a suicide attempt and fatally struck a woman below.
The victim has been identified by local media as 83-year-old Francesca Manno.
Emergency services responded to a residence in Milan, Italy, on Sunday, Sept. 14, where they pronounced Manno dead, Italian news outlets Rai News, Il Post and Il Mattino reported, alongside Italian news agency Ansa.
The investigation revealed Manno died when a 70-year-old man who lived in her building jumped from his balcony in an apparent attempt to die by suicide, per the outlets.
The man jumped from the fourth floor into the courtyard where Manno was walking.
While it was initially thought to be a double-suicide by a couple, it soon emerged that Manno was not connected to the suspect, who survived the incident, Corriere della Sera reported. The man is not being named in Italian media. He was hospitalized with multiple leg fractures, according to reports.
Local authorities have charged the suspect with manslaughter, Rai News, ANSA and Corriere della Sera reported.

Manno lived in the building with her husband, according to a woman who knew her for five decades, Rai News reported.
Manno seldom left the house, the woman told the outlet.
She was struck head-on, per Corriere della Sera, and the impact was extremely violent, Rai News reported.
Her autopsy will be conducted in the next few days, according to ANSA.
