Colin Farrell doesn’t think that either of his sons will follow in his footsteps.

While chatting with Extra at the New York City premiere of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey on Monday, Sept. 15, The Penguin star, 49, shared that he doesn’t think his son Henry, 15, will be following in his acting footsteps.

“I know he’s busy figuring out what his own footsteps are, which is the most important thing,” he told the outlet, referring to his younger son, who walked the carpet with him at the 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. “And even if he went into acting, it wouldn’t be — I refuse to believe they are my footsteps. He will always make his own.”

The A Big Bold Beautiful Journey actor, who was in the running to take home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, brought his son Henry to the Emmys with him. Farrell told Extra that it was “great” spending the evening with his son.

“Both my boys living their own lives, but it’s great to share [a] night like last night with them,” he said. “[It] was fun. It was great having them there.”

Farrell and teenage son Henry walked the carpet together at the Emmys, wearing matching black suits. The proud dad wore a black suit with a white shirt and black bowtie, while the teen matched in a black suit of his own, pairing it with a black shirt and tie.

The father-son duo previously walked the carpet at the 95th Academy Awards in 2023. Farrell, who was nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin, was photographed with his younger son, smiling together for the camera with their arms around one another.

The actor and Henry, whom Farrell shares with Ondine costar Alicja Bachleda-Curús, both wore black tuxedos for the special event. Farrell is also dad to son James, 22, with ex-girlfriend Kim Bordenave.

Farrell is known for often portraying the ultimate villain on screen, having starred as Lord Percival Graves in the 2016 hit Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the Penguin in 2022’s The Batman.

While he admits that his two sons don’t have much interest in his work, James and Henry definitely aren’t impressed with their dad’s tendency to play the antagonist.

“They’re sick of me being a bad guy,” he said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022. “Which apparently, reading between the lines, leads me to believe that they think I’m okay.”
