Maurene Comey, daughter of ex-FBI Director James, sues DOJ to get back US Attorney’s Office job

Maurene Comey, who prosecuted Jeffrey Epstein and Sean Combs at the powerful Manhattan US Attorney’s Office, sued the Justice Department Monday over what she called her “illegal” and politically motivated firing.

The daughter of former FBI Director James Comey — who repeatedly clashed with President Trump during his first term — alleges that her “unconstitutional” July canning came because of her famous dad, or “because of her perceived political affiliation and beliefs.”

Trump’s DOJ has not given a reason for Comey’s sudden firing, which came as she had been preparing for October’s upcoming sentencing in the headline-grabbing Combs case.

“In truth, there is no legitimate explanation,” Comey argued Monday in a suit filed in Manhattan federal court.

The suit notes Comey’s work prosecuting Epstein and his convicted madam Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison after a trial Comey helped lead.

Comey’s suit asks a federal judge to order her reinstated to the Manhattan US Attorney’s office effective immediately, and to declare that the White House did not have the legal authority to remove her in the first place.

This is a developing story.
