Maniac NYC driver who mowed down teen girl who rejected him, had suspended license: docs
The crazed drunk driver accused of mowing down a 16-year-old on a Queens sidewalk after she rejected his lewd advances was charged with murder Saturday night — and it’s not the first time he was nabbed driving under the influence.
Driving with a suspended license, Edwin Cruz-Gomez, 38, allegedly plowed a 2009 Chevy Suburban into teen Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez following a heated fight with the girl, her boyfriend, her mother and the mother’s friend Saturday morning outside an Elmhurst bar.
Earlier in the year, he had been charged with driving while intoxicated as he sped in East Meadow, Long Island, according to court records.
His license was suspended following the Jan. 26 incident.
Six months later, he was caught speeding and driving with a suspended license by Nassau County cops, court records show.
Despite the previous arrests, a heavily sloshed Cruz-Gomez was sitting outside Prima Dona on Roosevelt Avenue and Benham Street when the group walked by around 4 a.m., sources said.
The clash erupted when he allegedly made sexual remarks to the teen.
Moments later, the maniac allegedly got behind the wheel and drove up on the sidewalk, pinning the helpless girl against a pillar, according to sources.
He also crashed into the girl’s 32-year-old mom and then hit a parked vehicle while trying to flee, according to cops.
The teen died at the scene. Her mother was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.
She left her apartment with the group Friday night hours before the murder, according to surveillance footage obtained by The Post.
“It’s difficult to see her alive on that video, knowing she died six hours later,” the building super said. “A young woman with so much life.”
Meanwhile, Cruz-Gomez, of Uniondale, was nabbed at the scene and hit with a slew of charges including murder, attempted murder, assault, vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operator.
His blood alcohol concentration was double the legal limit, according to police.
The serial reckless driver was taken to the hospital following the arrest.
His arraignment was pending Sunday afternoon.
