Commanders’ Austin Ekeler ruled out for season with torn Achilles
The worst has been confirmed for Austin Ekeler.
The Commanders running back has suffered a season-ending Achilles tear, as confirmed by imaging done Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday.
“Thank you for all the love and well wishes,” Ekeler wrote on his Instagram on Saturday. “I appreciate you all.”
The injury was suspected to be just that after the 30-year-old went down in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s 27-18 loss to the Packers.
With under six minutes left to play in the Week 2 matchup, Ekeler was running a route, and as he went to cut up the field, he went down on the ground.
He was quickly attended to by trainers and was helped off the field before being ruled out for the remainder of the game with an Achilles injury.
The nine-year veteran finished with eight rushes for 17 yards, along with two catches for seven yards.
When leaving Lambeau Field, Ekeler was wearing a walking boot on his right foot and utilizing a set of crutches.
Without Ekeler as the Commanders’ top running back, the team will likely turn more to rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt.
