Mom stabbed to death by own son in home across from elementary school: cops

A Long Island man allegedly stabbed his 59-year-old mom to death inside their shared home across the street from an elementary school Tuesday evening, police said. 

Jason S. Kurumoglu, 30, allegedly stabbed his mom, Melida Velasquez, inside their home on tree-lined West White Street near Willen Lane in Brentwood – across from Brentwood’s North Elementary School, Suffolk County Police said.

Officers descended on the home just before 5:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about the attack, authorities said. 

Velasquez was found with stab wounds inside the single-family house and pronounced deceased. 

Kurumoglu was arrested on Wednesday and charged with second-degree murder, police said. 

He was set be held overnight at Suffolk County’s Third Precinct and was expected to appear in court to be arraigned Thursday, cops said.
