Grinning mom left young kids home alone to ‘go smoke’ weed: affidavit
A Kentucky mom grinned knowingly for a mugshot after she was arrested for allegedly leaving her two young kids home alone so she could “go smoke” weed.
Morgan Chapman, 23, was arrested Monday in Pikeville for allegedly leaving her kids, ages 2 and 4, in her apartment, telling a neighbor to keep an eye on them so she could “go smoke” without the kids around, according to a criminal complaint.
Wearing a white-and-red striped, V-neck T-shirt, the bleach-blond mom cocked her head to the side toward her lifted shoulder and smiled as she propped her arms on her waist — appearing to try to look her best as if posing for a social media shot.
Police showed up to Chapman’s apartment around 9 p.m. Monday after receiving a call for a domestic disturbance, according to a report by Law & Crime.
“Upon knocking, two very young children opened the door,” the complaint alleges, with cops then realizing the kids were home alone.
The officers spoke to a neighbor across the hall who told them Chapman had asked her around 5 p.m. — four hours before the cops arrived — to watch the children so she could get high, the complaint says.
Chapman then showed up while the officers were there, claiming she only left the kids “for a couple of minutes while she went to a neighbor’s house,” the court document says.
Chapman smelled strongly of alcohol, had “blood shot glassy eyes” and was slurring her words, the complaint alleges.
She was arrested while her kids were taken to the station and child services were brought in for the kids, the complaint says.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, Morgan’s ex-husband, Jordan Keith Chapman, blasted his ex, claiming she got into a fight with her boyfriend before getting drunk at another apartment with other women — which he sarcastically called the “mom of the year club.”
“My kids didn’t even know where she was,” he alleged. “My children are now safe and have been placed solely in my care.”
Morgan was released on bond. It is not immediately known who her lawyer is.
