Dart was born in Kaysville, Utah, which about 60 miles north of Utah Valley University’s campus in Orem.
Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker also reacted to the tragedy with a social media post on his X account.
“Thank you for your strong witness for Christ @charliekirk11,” he wrote. “Thank you for pursuing truth and leading your family as a husband and father. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their soul and the souls of all the faithful departed.”
The Yankees held a moment of silence before their game against the Tigers in The Bronx.
Kirk was hit in the neck by the fatal round that had been shot from roughly 200 yards away with a long gun.
The conservative activist was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent surgery before succumbing to his injuries.
The FBI announced Wednesday night that the alleged gunman had been taken into custody, though his identity and motives remain unknown.
