Affleck and Damon, who last appeared together on screen in the 2023 movie Air, costar in The Rip alongside Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins and Kyle Chandler.
The longtime friends and collaborators are also producers on the movie through their company Artists Equity. So is Damon’s wife Luciana Damon, who previously received an executive producer credit on her husband’s 2024 movie The Instigators, which he starred in with Ben’s brother Casey Affleck. (Luciana, 49, is also credited as a producer on Ben’s upcoming movie Animals, which Matt also co-produced.)
Damon told Deadline in a November 2024 interview that he and Affleck were inspired to form their production company and work closely more consistently after making their 2021 film The Last Duel, which was the first movie they wrote together since 1997’s Good Will Hunting. He also cited Peter Jackson’s 2021 Beatles documentary Get Back as an inspiration for him to want to work more closely with his friend.

“I was like, what are we doing, man? Both of us, this is what we love to do more than anything,” Damon said at the time. “The only thing better is doing it together, in any capacity, whether he’s directing or whether we’re acting together or whether we’re producing together, or whether we’re just facilitating for other filmmakers.”
The Rip is written and directed by Joe Carnahan, known best for movies like The A-Team and The Grey. Carnahan shares screenplay credits on the movie with Michael McGrale.
The Rip is on Netflix Jan. 16.
