The actors have been pictured together since Titanic, including at the 2017 Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s (LDF) annual charity auction in St. Tropez, France.

Speaking to PEOPLE in a 2018 interview, Zane said fans “love to hate” his Titanic character.

“And then there is a small army of those who sympathize and understand he was just a product of bad programming. You hear it all. ‘How could you?’ or ‘Poor bastard,’ ” he added.

While he had acted in large projects prior, DiCaprio’s career took off after Titanic. He has since been nominated for five Oscars, winning in 2016 for the film The Revenant, with Winslet cheering him on throughout awards season.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the Golden Globes in 2023, Titanic director James Cameron said he had to convince DiCaprio to take the role.

“He didn’t want to do a leading man,” recalled Cameron. “I had to really twist his arm to be in the movie. He didn’t want to do it. He thought it was boring.”

The filmmaker added that while DiCaprio eventually “accepted the part” of the ill-fated Jack, it was “only when I convinced him that it was actually a difficult challenge.”

“It didn’t surprise me, first of all, that he’s made a lot of authentic choices going forward,” Cameron adds. “And secondly, I never doubted his talent.”

Zane, meanwhile, has also been acting consistently since Titanic, churning out multiple projects, such as the film The Believer (with Ryan Gosling) and on TV in CharmedCommunity and The Boys. He also took to the stage for a stint on Broadway in Chicago
