Zoe Winkler Reinis treasures the bond between her dad and Ron Howard

Speaking with PEOPLE about her organization, This Is About Humanity, the activist and mom of three, 44, talked about watching the relationship between her dad, Henry Winkler, and his Happy Days costar.

“Ron came over and did my podcast, [What in the Winkler], with my dad. And it’s special to hear what they experienced,” Zoe tells PEOPLE.

“What they lived was such a one-of-one situation. The fact that they have each other, and they are still working, and they’re still getting to do what they love I think is such an amazing thing. So many people don’t get that, especially in this world of entertainment.”

Noting that husband Rob Reinis was involved in acting when they first started dating, Zoe continues, “I used to tell him, ‘This is the only job where it doesn’t always matter if you’re super talented, because there’s so many talented people, it’s just about timing.’ ”

“You can put in the work, but sometimes, it doesn’t show up for you, which is crazy in a career. For [Winkler and Howard], they are both very good, sturdy people. They have such a solid family life that is each of their main focus, and then everything else is second.”

The 72-year-old actor and director brought Richie to life in the classic sitcom, which ran between 1974 and 1984. He played a lead role in the show’s first seven seasons before departing in 1980 and returning as a guest star for the 11th and final season. Howard’s directing career started between the show’s third and fourth seasons.

Winkler, 79, was a fan favorite on the show for his portrayal of Fonzie.

Zoe shares, “I believe that that’s their main focus, and then everything else is second. And I think that that helped them bond and stay connected.”

Today, Zoe is a mom of three who has pivoted from a career in education to co-founding This Is About Humanity with Elsa Marie Collins and Yolanda Selene Walther-Meade. The three moms found themselves horrified as they saw the hardship facing families being separated at the US-Mexico border.

Zoe is grateful that her entire family is “such a big part of This Is About Humanity.”

“I believe being a mom is the reason that This Is About Humanity even began. Because I think it’s the great equalizer. It doesn’t matter. The only thing that separates us is where we were born, but we’re moms. That kind of instinct and that feeling override everything else in my life.”
