Rocker Tom Morello is reflecting on his final conversation with Ozzy Osbourne — and the late star’s hilarious reaction to the end of his Back to the Beginning concert.

Morello, 61, served as the musical director for the July 5 benefit show in Birmingham, England, which came just weeks before Osbourne died on July 22 at age 76.

The Rage Against the Machine rocker told Rocklahoma Live on Sept. 6 that after the show, he was hanging out at the afterparty and playing pinball with his son when Osbourne’s son Jack caught his attention.

“Somebody taps me on the shoulder. I’m in the middle of a multiball, I’m like, ‘Get off me.’ And it’s Jack Osbourne, ‘cause his dad wants to say hi,” Morello recalled. “So I finish the game and he’s like, ‘Ozzy would like to say hi.’”

The musician said what followed was a perfect end to the night — and a very on-brand response for Osbourne to wrap the day’s festivities.

“I got to, one last time, kiss his head, tell him I love him, thank him for a lifetime of music, and his reply was like, ‘Could you find Sharon? I want to get the f— out of here,’” Morello said. “Which is the perfect coda to the night.”

Osbourne was able to perform with Black Sabbath at the final show, and also sang a number of solo hits, including “Crazy Train” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home.”

“The idea was to make it the greatest day in the history of heavy metal, and I think we did pretty well,” Morello said.

At the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 7, Osbourne was honored with a tribute performance courtesy of Yungblud, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.

Son Jack introduced the set alongside his four daughters Pearl, Andy, Minnie and Maple, with the whole family clad in Ozzy T-shirts.

Jack later gave the performance his seal of approval by sharing it on social media with a mind-blown emoji.
