Steven Tyler is rocking out.

The lead singer of Aerosmith, 77, honored the late Ozzy Osbourne at the 2025 MTV VMAs on Sunday, Sept. 7 with a performance of “Mama, I’m Coming Home” accompanied by his bandmate Joe Perry, Yungblud and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.

The song was a single from Osbourne’s 1991 album No More Tears.

The tribute performance comes after Aerosmith announced its retirement from touring in August 2024 following Tyler’s onstage larynx fracture.

Last month, Perry said the rocker is not interested in touring again.  “I would bet that there’s an Aerosmith show left. There’s been talk about doing a documentary, that might be part of it,” he said in an interview with Boston radio station WBUR.

“I’ve been spending a lot of time with Steven and he just doesn’t want to tour and he can’t tour. It’s tough,” the guitarist continued.

About six months after Aerosmith announced their retirement, Tyler took to the stage at his Jam for Janie Grammy Awards Viewing Party in Los Angeles. There, he performed a cover of Extreme’s “More Than Words,” “Toys in the Attic” and “Dream On,” among others.

Two weeks later, former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum said the performance “was a really big moment for him because he hurt himself bad.” However, he added that Tyler remains uninterested in touring. “Now, is he gonna tour again? No, he’s not. Because, and I explained this to people, Steven cannot put himself under the rigors of doing a full worldwide tour because there’s a lot of pressure.”

Aerosmith shared an emotional statement upon Osbourne’s death, writing, “We’re heartbroken to hear about the passing of our brother in rock, Ozzy Osbourne. A voice that changed music forever.”

“From Black Sabbath to his solo work, Ozzy redefined what it meant to be heavy. He did it all with heart, grit, and that wild spirit only he could bring,” continued the statement. “Our love goes out to Sharon, his family, his band, and the millions around the world who felt his fire.”

The 2025 MTV VMAs air live from New York’s UBS Arena on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and MTV. The ceremony will also stream on Paramount+.
