Rory McIlroy is all smiles after winning the Irish Open — and getting to celebrate the victory with his wife Erica Stoll and their daughter Poppy.

After the 36-year-old Northern Irish golfer defeated Joakim Lagergren of Sweden on Sunday, Sept. 7 to win the title, McIlroy beamed as he lifted the trophy alongside Stoll, 37, and 5-year-old Poppy.

“I feel so lucky I get to do this, in front of these people,” a flustered McIlroy said to Sky Sports after the win. “The support has been amazing all week. I thought it was a nice homecoming. This has been incredible,” he said, adding, “it has exceeded all my expectations.”

In a post on X after the tournament, McIlroy thanked fans for their support and reflected on his victory. “To win my National Open in front of these fans was absolutely incredible,” the golfer wrote. “I love coming home, I love playing in this atmosphere and I’ll never take it for granted. Forever grateful for the support.”

When asked where the Irish Open win ranks in his career, McIlroy said, “It’s right up there,” according to SI, adding, “It’s just absolutely incredible seeing it.”

2025 has been a strong year for McIlroy, who won the coveted Masters Tournament after years of near-misses, and got to share a similar celebration with his wife and daughter.

Reflecting on his successful year, McIlroy said, “To do what I did earlier in the year and then to come home and win my national open, no matter what happens for the rest of the year, that’s a pretty cool year,” while speaking to reporters, according to CNN.

“2025’s going to go down as one of the best, if not the best, in my career,” he continued. “I’m just so happy my game’s in good shape, I feel like I’m playing well,” he added. “That excites me for what’s coming up.”

Shortly after his Masters win, McIlroy revealed a major life change for his family. He told Telegraph Sport  in May that he purchased a plot of land in Wentworth in 2023 and the home is finally ready for the family to move in. McIlroy said the new home will serve as the family’s “base” while he competes.
