Prince Harry visits Queen Elizabeth’s gravesite on 3rd anniversary of her death
Prince Harry visited his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s gravesite on the third anniversary of her death.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, stopped by the burial place of the late monarch at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor on Monday to pay his respects privately and lay a wreath of flowers, a spokesperson for Harry told People.
The prince arrived in the UK early on Monday ahead of a series of visits with his charities this week. His wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children — Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — did not join him.
It’s unclear whether Harry will use the trip as an opportunity to try to meet with his estranged father, King Charles III, whom he has not seen in person since the king revealed his cancer diagnosis in February 2024.
In May, Harry told BBC News that his dad would not speak to him. The prince, who stepped down from his royal duties and moved to the US in 2020, acknowledged at the time that “some members” of his family would “never forgive” him for “lots of things,” including “writing a book.”
He released his bombshell memoir, “Spare,” in January 2023.
In it, he accused Charles, 76, of making jokes that Harry’s “actual father was one of [Princess Diana’s] former lovers.”
Their estrangement was made worse by a legal battle the duke was fighting over the removal of his publicly funded security.
As for Elizabeth, who reined for 70 years before Charles inherited the throne, she died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Sept. 8, 2022, at the age of 96.
She was laid to rest beside her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99.
Also interred in the tiny chapel within St. George’s are Elizabeth’s parents, King George VI, who died in 1952, and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who died in 2002, as well as her sister, Princess Margaret, who also died in 2002.
St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle is a special place for Harry for another reason, too, as it served as the venue for his May 2018 wedding to Markle, 44.
