An 8-year-old Texas boy is speaking out after being struck and injured by a hit-and-run SVU driver.

Liam Park was riding his bike with friends on the evening of Friday, Sept. 5, at the Mercantile Square apartments in Fort Worth, when he was struck, NBC affiliate KXAS, ABC affiliate WFAA and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

“Officers were dispatched to a hit and run call located at 3601 Vela Ln,” the Fort Worth Police Department said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “Officers located a juvenile who was hit by vehicle who fled the scene. The victim was transported to the hospital due to his injuries.”

The police also added that the suspected vehicle “appears to be a black SUV.” An investigation is ongoing.

Speaking with WFAA, Liam, who was covered in road rashes after the collision, said the car was “blasting music while it was driving.”

In a GoFundMe established on behalf of her son, Liam’s mom, Baylea Christiansen, alleged that witnesses saw the SUV driver drive head-on and even get out of their car. They “looked at him lying there, and then sped away.”

“I’m frustrated, I’m infuriated, I’m mad,” Christiansen told KXAS. “I can’t believe that somebody would look at a kid in the road and just leave them there.”

PEOPLE reached out Christiansen for comment on Monday, Sept. 8.

“There’s no way you’re not going to feel a bicycle under your vehicle,” Liam’s dad, Kyle Park, told WFAA. “A speed bump, you feel a speed bump. You’re going to feel a bicycle and a child under your vehicle.”

Fortunately, Liam did not suffer critical or life-threatening injuries, according to the GoFundMe.

“I just had skin injuries,” Liam told CBS affiliate KTVT. “It’s hard to sleep and it hurts.”

And the incident has also affected his confidence, his mom wrote in the GoFundMe.

“At his age, he’s starting to care about his appearance — and he is devastated by his injuries, “ Christiansen wrote in the fundraiser. “One ear now hangs lower than the other, something we didn’t notice until later. We hope it’s just due to swelling in that area. When he realized it, he broke down. He worries about scarring, goes back and forth between emotional breakdowns and putting on a brave face, and is trying so hard to be okay.”

“I would like to see something happen, and I don’t know that anything will because we don’t know who did this,” Christiansen told KXAS. “If you felt scared, I understand that, but think of the kid in the road that could be dying.”
