Six people have died and multiple others have been injured, including a pregnant woman, following a shooting in Jerusalem, according to authorities.

On Monday, Sept. 8 at around 10:13 a.m. local time, Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) — the country’s national emergency medical service — responded to reports that two people had opened fire near a bus stop at Ramot Junction on Yigal Yadin Street in the capital, per a Facebook post.

“MDA paramedics pronounced four males deceased at the scene, including a man in his 50s and three men in their 30s,” the post stated.

“The death of a woman in her 50s, who was evacuated in critical condition, was confirmed at Shaare Zedek Medical Center,” the MDA added.

Israel’s foreign minister, Gideon Saar, has since confirmed that a sixth person had now died following the shooting, per the BBC. Saar also said that a pregnant woman was among those injured, according to the outlet.

“Also at the scene were the bodies of the two terrorists who were neutralized,” the MDA’s Facebook post continued, stating that nine people had been taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Hadassah Mount Scopus, and Hadassah Ein Kerem.

The casualties included six people who were in serious condition and three who were in mild condition, the MDA said.

“Additionally, two people in moderate condition were evacuated from the scene,” the post noted.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed soldiers had been sent to the area, per the BBC.

“IDF soldiers are currently encircling several areas on the outskirts of [the city of] Ramallah [in the central West Bank, Palestine] to thwart terrorism and strengthen the defence effort,” a statement said, according to the outlet.

MDA paramedic Nadav Taib said, “We arrived at the scene in large numbers as soon as we heard the report of gunshot wounds,” per The Jerusalem Post.

“We saw people lying unconscious on the road, on the side of the road, and on the sidewalk near a bus stop. There was a lot of destruction, shattered glass on the floor, and a lot of commotion,” Taib told the outlet. “We began providing medical treatment to the injured, and we are currently continuing to treat the injured and transport them to hospitals.”

There was no immediate claim from any armed groups, per the BBC.

The Israeli Government’s press office and the MDA didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
