Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s son has finally joined the legions of Hamilton fans, according to his parents.
Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the Hamilton outdoor showing at the Delacorte Theater in New York City on Wednesday, Sept. 3, Luis A. Miranda Jr. and Luz Towns-Miranda said Lin-Manuel’s elder son, 10-year-old Sebastian, is “warming up” to the hit Broadway show his father created.
“It’s stages,” Luis says. “The older one, Sebastian, it’s now warming up to Hamilton.”
“The little one, for a long time with all the Encanto songs,” he continues, referring to Lin-Manuel’s 7-year-old son, Francisco. “And ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno.’ ”

Luis and Luz also spoke to PEOPLE about how proud they are of their son amid the 10th anniversary of Hamilton. The milestone is being marked by the theatrical release of the live-captured performance of the original Broadway production, which was filmed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in June 2016 and released on Disney+ in 2020.
“We expect greatness to continue because this is such an incredible work of art,” Luis says. “Now it’s the big screen, and for us it’s even more significant because we couldn’t go to Broadway. We didn’t have money to go to Broadway, but we went to the movies all the time. So I know there are lots of families out there who can now experience Hamilton on the big screen.”
“With the original cast, which is huge,” Luz adds.

Luis also recalled the first time that Lin-Manuel played him a song from Hamilton while he was still working on it.
“He was invited to the White House. He was asked to sing something from In the Heights, and he told me, ‘Dad, you know that I’ve been working on Hamilton. Do you think that I could play the only song I have?’ ” he remembers. “I’m like, ‘No. No, why don’t you go with what we know works, which is In the Heights.’ ”
Luis continues: “But he presented it to the White House. They loved it, and the rest is history.”
Lin-Manuel also spoke to PEOPLE at Wednesday’s premiere, and reflected on what he would want people to one day say about him, à la the memorable Hamilton line, “Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?”
“I hope they like what I wrote. I hope they thought I was nice,” he says. “I think what I’m proudest of is how many amazing actors have one of my shows as the first line in their résumé, and how many Broadway debuts and equity cards.”
“We got incredibly talented actors of color just because I’m always trying to get us on the board. Yeah, that’s it,” he adds.

The playwright and songwriter also shared which Hamilton song he’s most proud of.
“I mean, I was really cooking with Wait For It. That song, I’ve seen a lot of tattoos of it, which is how I know it really resonates with people,” he tells PEOPLE.
