Frankie Grande doesn’t mind letting his husband have his way!

The singer, 42, shares his marriage rule with husband Hale Leon that keeps their relationship going strong while exclusively speaking with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 7 at New York’s UBS Arena.

“He’s gonna say that he’s always right, and that’s the rule,” Grande says of Leon after asking him what he thinks their rule is.

Joining the interview, Leon confirms Grande’s answer. “Well, you just have to listen to me,” he tells him cheekily.

“That’s what I said,” the “Rhythm of Love” singer says. “I guess we know each other really well. Let’s just say that I do listen to him. But in the end, I’ve got tips and tricks.”

Grande continues, “He thinks he’s the traditional man in the relationship,” adding that he’ll let Leon believe that things are “his idea,” even when it may not be entirely true.

Frankie proposed to Hale in June 2021 after two years of dating. They tied the knot in May 2022 during a Star Wars-themed ceremony in Florida.

In February, the singer spoke to PEOPLE about their three-year anniversary, saying that their “destined souls” have fallen even “deeper” in love with each other over the years.

“I feel like the longer we get into our relationship, the deeper that we fall in love. The trust just becomes even deeper, and so I think that maybe there’s even things that I’m still learning about my husband that he’s just feeling comfortable sharing,” he said.

The brother of Ariana Grande is attending the awards show for the first time as an artist, following the release of his debut studio album Hotel Rock Bottom in June.

“It’s so exciting!” he says of the major milestone. “I don’t think if you had told me the last time that I was at the VMAs that the next time I’d be coming, I’d be coming as an artist, I would believe you. So, I’m really grateful.”

As for what’s next, Grande teases, “There’s more music being released. There are more things coming out. There are more collabs. There is more fierceness. You’re getting a lot that I’m not allowed to spill the tea about yet, but it is coming.”

The deluxe edition of his album contained appearances with his sister Ariana, Big Freedia and Salina EsTitties.

The 2025 MTV VMAs air live from New York’s UBS Arena on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and MTV. The ceremony will also stream on Paramount+.
