A husband is in the dog house for neglecting his dog dad duties.

His wife explained on the community forum Mumsnet that she allowed him to get a puppy under the condition he’d be the pet’s primary caregiver.

“My partner has been wanting to get a puppy for a while,” she wrote, before detailing their existing pet situation and mutual agreement. “I already have an elderly dog and an almost 2-year-old puppy.

“I don’t have a problem with him getting any animal he wants, as long as he looks after it. We talked for months and he agreed he would do the majority of work with the new pup, just as I have with mine,” she added.

However, she said her husband hasn’t held up his end of the deal after finding his “perfect dog” and having her at home for a week now.

“She is beautiful and so loving, BUT [he has] yet to do anything with her,” she wrote. “In the time she had been with us, he’s fed her once. The rest of the times have been left to me, including the playing and walking.”

After a recent incident of neglect, the wife admitted that she is considering telling her husband to get rid of the puppy since he’s not taking care of it.

“Last night, me and my daughter went to my sister’s for a girly sleepover before school starts, and I offered to take the dogs with me, but he insisted he could take care of them,” she said, before revealing he failed to do so.

She continued, “I left around 7 p.m. so they were all sorted for the night. Today I got home at around 1p.m. … and none of the dogs had been fed.”

“I do not agree with getting animals and selling them, but I just don’t know what to do,” the woman, who is also taking college classes, concluded. “My schedule is already so busy without adding a puppy to the mix.”

In a poll underneath her post, 92% of more than 500 voters selected the “You are NOT being unreasonable” option.

“He’s being unfair to you and the puppy. The puppy would be much better off with someone who loved and cared for it,” one reader replied, while another said, “I’d get rid of both him and the puppy as he sounds useless. He couldn’t be bothered to feed an elderly dog and a young puppy?”

A third Mumsnet user responded, “You need to get rid of him.”
