Jason Biggs is still holding out hope for American Pie 5.
In November 2024, Biggs’ former costar Thomas Ian Nicholas revealed at Rhode Island Comic Con that “they were negotiating for American Pie 5“ in “the summer of 2021,” but they “didn’t come to terms on negotiation.” Tara Reid then said she “heard about what they wrote in the script” and “it’s really funny.”
Now, while speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Biggs admits that “there are so many moving parts” — but that doesn’t mean it’s off the table.

“It’s tricky,” the Orange Is the New Black, 47, alum says. “I’ve heard various reasons for the holdup, and the most realistic of which is just that there are a lot of people that you have to get on board. Behind the scenes, as well. Especially behind the scenes.”
“But look, it’d be fun. I would love to do it. I know a lot of us would love to,” he adds.

Biggs, however, notes that it’s also “about finding the right story.”

“And yes, I know there’s already some ideas kicking around,” he says. “I have some, everyone sort of has some ideas, I think. And, I’d love to.
“Nostalgia is big right now, and Universal [Pictures is] killing it right now,” he adds. “I think, hey, they’re sitting on this property. Let’s go.”
In the meantime, Biggs continues to hold American Pie close to his heart. He recently reunited with former castmates Alyson Hannigan, Mena Suvari, Chris Klein and Shannon Elizabeth as part of his and wife Jenny Mollen‘s TBS show, Dinner and a Movie, as the couple revisited the franchise’s debut film.
“When Jenny and I first signed on to do this show, there were conversations about doing [an American Pie-centered episode],” Biggs says. “Timing is what it is, and we knew it would be important to get some of my friends from the movie to come back on, if we could. Mena stepped right up, which I love.”

American Pie made its debut in 1999. It was followed by three additional sequels, the last of which, American Reunion, came out in 2012. There was also a spinoff, direct-to-video film series, titled American Pie Presents, which consisted of five films released between 2005 to 2020.
“I think it’s safe to say that this American Pie movie franchise, and especially that first movie, the success of that movie, is something that is so special and unique,” Biggs adds. “We are the only ones that have it. So, in that sense, we are family, and it’s like growing up in the same household, a brother and sister. We’re the only ones that can talk about what it was like to grow up with their mom and dad in that house.”
