Two Marquette University students were killed and four others were injured in a car crash — and the driver has since been arrested.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, CBS 58 and FOX 6 Now, lacrosse players Scott Michaud, 19, and Noah Snyder, 20, were killed in the crash that took place on Friday, Sept. 5, at around 5 p.m. local time just outside of their college campus in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the students’ identities on Saturday morning, per the Journal Sentinel.

The outlets reported that four other people were injured in the two-car collision, which occurred at the intersection of North 27th Street and West St. Paul Avenue.

According to FOX 6 Now, some injured students were treated at the scene, and others were taken to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. Police told the outlets that a 41-year-old driver — whose name has not been made public — has been taken into custody.

No charges have been filed against the driver as of Saturday, per the Journal Sentinel, as the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is still reviewing the case.

Michaud and Snyder were both members of the men’s lacrosse team, the university said on Facebook. Three of the four people who were injured were also lacrosse players at the university, Marquette said in a statement.

According to the Marquette lacrosse roster, Michaud, a goalie, was originally from Springboro, Ohio. Before coming to Marquette, he attended high school just outside of Dayton.

Snyder was originally from Irving, N.Y., and attended high school in West Chester, Pa. The athletics department wrote that he was a “valuable offensive contributor” who played attack.

Both students were dubbed three-star recruits, and university president Kimo Ah Yun wrote in a letter to the community that they had each been named BIG EAST All-Academic Team athletes for their work as students.

The Journal Sentinel reported that as of Friday, at least 39 people have died in crashes in Milwaukee this year, marking a decrease in fatalities of about 25% from last year, according to police.

The outlet reported that the city has made headlines in recent months for illegal street takeovers, in which drivers perform dangerous stunts before cheering crowds, as well as reports of reckless driving, speeding and more.

On social media, Marquette announced that all athletic events for the weekend would be canceled, and a special mass for the school community was held on Saturday afternoon. The university added that the campus’ Alumni Memorial Union would be open from noon to 3 p.m. for campus community support.

“Please keep Noah and Scott’s parents, siblings and families, and the Marquette Athletics and college communities in your prayers,” Ah Yun wrote.

“Noah and Scott’s lives were taken too soon, and we share in the heartbreak of their teammates, coaches and those who knew them personally,” he added.
