Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce ‘Bring Out the Best in Each Other’ (Exclusive)

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s inner circle are thrilled about the happy couple’s engagement.

“Their friends feel like they bring out the best in each other, and the people close to them are glad it’s out in the open,” a source tells PEOPLE of the engagement news. “Everyone thinks they make a great couple, and it’s been awesome to see how they’ve made time for each other despite their busy schedules.”

Swift and Kelce, both 35, announced their engagement on Aug. 26, sharing the news with fans in a joint Instagram post that has garnered more than 36 million likes. The couple posted the news with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” the dynamite emoji seemingly referencing their “TNT” nickname.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end proposed in August in a garden filled with flowers and candles in the backyard of his Kansas City-area home. The vintage-inspired diamond ring he designed with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry quickly drew attention. Swift’s sparkler boasts a massive old mine brilliant cut diamond, a rectangle-cut diamond with antique references.

The couple told their closest friends after Kelce popped the question, the source previously told PEOPLE.

“Taylor and Travis’ friends are thrilled for them, and a lot of them found out about the engagement right after it happened,” the source said. “Keeping it quiet wasn’t easy but now that it’s out, everyone’s just excited.”

The engagement marks another milestone in their whirlwind relationship that began when Swift was first spotted at a Chiefs game in September 2023. Within weeks, the pair went public and have since balanced supporting each other in NFL stadium suites and at international tour stops.

Over the past two years, the pair have managed to juggle their demanding careers while making time for their relationship. Swift was on the road for her record-breaking Eras Tour before it wrapped last December and is now preparing to release her next album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Oct. 3, while Kelce has been focused on his 13th NFL season, which kicks off Friday, Sept. 5, in São Paulo, Brazil.

A source previously told PEOPLE that the couple has been “in celebration mode ever since the engagement” but are “not in the wedding planning phase yet.” 

“Right now they just want to enjoy being engaged, and they are going to take their time with it,” the source said.

And while wedding plans aren’t yet underway, those around the Grammy winner and Super Bowl champ feel this moment is a natural step. As a separate insider previously told PEOPLE, “Both families are overjoyed. There were toasts, happy tears and everyone is thrilled for them.”

Kelce himself acknowledged what’s ahead on his New Heights podcast after his brother Jason Kelce joked about the planning process. “Oh, it’s gonna go crazy,” Travis admitted. “That is the next step, yeah, I’ve heard about that.”
