Scary Video Shows Bear Approaching Unaware Couple Relaxing in Park

- A couple had a near-miss with a bear while lounging outside in Vancouver’s Burnaby Mountain Park
- While other park-goers quickly scattered at the sight of the large bear walking towards them, the couple appeared relaxed, with one engrossed in a book
- When the duo realized what was going on, the bear was just a few feet away
A couple’s afternoon escalated from leisurely to alarming when a wild bear butted into their time together.
On Aug. 27, a large bear appeared in a grassy area of Vancouver’s Burnaby Mountain Park where numerous visitors were sitting on blankets, reading, eating, and enjoying the pleasant summer weather.
Footage of the incident captured by Divyanshu Chaubisa and shared with Caters shows the bear quickly moving towards a crowded area of the Canadian park. As the bear gets closer to the nearby humans, the people start rapidly collecting their belongings and clearing out to a location outside the bear’s path.

All the humans near the bear start moving, except for one couple in the middle of the video’s frame. The pair, seemingly unaware that their fellow park-goers are scattering to avoid a bear, remain seated on a blanket engrossed in their activities as the bear gets closer.
Once the bear gets within a few feet of the unaware couple — sitting in a now almost empty field — other parkgoers attempt to get the oblivious duo’s attention.

Finally, the twosome left behind registers the shouts and the bear’s presence and moves away from the wild animal moments before the bear reaches their blanket.
With the couple out of the way, the bear peruses the items left behind on their blanket and shows no interest in pursuing the pair.

Another close call with a bear transpired in the Alaskan wilderness when the NHL Seattle Krakens’ mascot — Buoy the sea troll — was briefly charged at by a brown bear. The mascot was out with some team members fishing when the bear emerged from the tree line and entered the water. The animal chased the group for a moment before halting a few feet away.
“I want to blame it on Buoy, they were pretty interested in his whole look,” Kraken center John Hayden said, referencing the mascot’s bright colors.
