Ryan Reynolds blasted for being ‘rude’ to child reporter on red carpet
Ryan Reynolds was called out for being “rude” and “condescending” following his recent interaction with a child reporter at the Toronto International Film Festival.
In video circulating on social media, Reynolds appeared to tell a dismissive joke to the child while walking the red carpet at the premiere of “John Candy: I Like Me” Friday.
“There is nothing funny about this. Kids do not understand these types of ‘jokes’ where the person is being rude to them. It’s called being mean,” someone tweeted, alongside a clip of the interaction.
“It’s one thing to joke with an adult but a kid won’t get what he believes are jokes,” the original tweet’s creator continued in response to another commenter calling the “Deadpool” star “manner less.”
“Ryan and Blake are so condescending and mean to people they deem ‘beneath them,’” said one netizen, referring to Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, who has come under fire for past interviews amid her ongoing legal feud with Justin Baldoni.
“Talk about making a nervous kid feel more timid. Jerk!” another X user shared.
Another angle of the interview showed Reynolds appearing confused when he first stopped to talk to the young kid. He then dropped to get face to face with the reporter, who started by greeting Reynolds and saying, “Hi Ryan, nice to meet you.”
The “Proposal” actor, 48, wasted no time after his greeting and proceeded to jokingly tell the child, “Let’s skip to the question.”
Though, Reynolds put on a more sensitive tone when answering the child’s question about his Tim Hortons breakfast sandwich.
A rep for Reynolds did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment on the interaction.
The negative comments regarding Reynolds come amid Lively’s claims that Baldoni, his Wayfarer Studios and his PR team launched a smear campaign against her in retaliation because of her accusations of sexual harassment toward the “It Ends With Us’ director.
Last month, the text messages and emails allegedly proving Baldoni’s involvement in the scheme were unsealed by the federal judge presiding over their case.
Lively, 37, has also subpoenaed several content creators, media personalities and journalists in the case, claiming they all had some involvement.
