Ireland Baldwin Gave Dad Alec a Pig-Shaped Grill as Nod to ‘Rude’ Voicemail

  • Ireland Baldwin gifted her dad Alec Baldwin a pig-shaped grill for Father’s Day a few years ago, The New York Times reports
  • The gift was a joking nod to him once calling her a “rude, thoughtless, little pig” in a voicemail
  • Alec later apologized for the remarks, and Ireland has roasted him over it in the years since

For Ireland Baldwin, revenge is a dish best served grilled.

In a recent New York Times profile of Ireland’s dad, Alec Baldwin, and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, the outlet revealed that the 29-year-old model gave Alec a pig-shaped grill for Father’s Day a few years ago, sharing a photo of the Traeger Lil’ Pig pellet grill in the family’s yard.

The Times noted that Ireland’s gift was a joking reference to a 2007 message she got from her dad when she was was just 11 years old, when Alec, 67, and her mother, Kim Basinger, were embroiled in a nasty divorce and custody battle.

Alec left Ireland a voicemail after she missed a scheduled phone call at the time, calling her a “rude, thoughtless, little pig.” (He later apologized.)

“My daughter, Ireland, has a great sense of humor, and she sent me that to commemorate some unusual moment we had together,” Alec told the Times, revealing that he normally keeps it hidden in a playhouse on the property of his Hamptons, New York, farmhouse.

He added, “A couple of weeks ago, Ireland, her husband and her daughter came to visit. Hilaria and Ireland have a similar sense of humor, which is at my expense pretty uniformly. So, we brought it out and cooked on it.”

Ten years later, Alec opened up about the incident on Good Morning America, telling George Stephanopoulos that it was “thrown in [my] face every day.”

“It’s a scab that never heals ’cause it’s being picked at all the time by other people. My daughter, that’s hurt her in a permanent way,” he explained.

But Ireland — the oldest of Alec’s eight kids, and his only child with ex Basinger, 71 — has been able to joke about the voicemail in the years since, even during a Comedy Central roast of the 30 Rock actor back in 2019.

“I almost didn’t even know about it, because I haven’t checked my voicemails for the last 12 years,” she joked on the special, as Alec simply nodded.

Mission: Impossible is what I call getting my dad to apologize,” Ireland also said during roast, before ending by giving her dad a hug.

After it was recently announced that Alec’s wife Hilaria, 41, would be competing on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars with pro Gleb Savchenko, Ireland reacted to the news in a sweet Instagram post dedicated to her stepmom.

“I wanted to take a second to talk about my step mom @hilariabaldwin,” Ireland’s caption began. “I think if people actually knew her the way I do, they would be quite surprised. This post may come out of left field since I don’t post about her or any family members much. I expect misinformed comments and plenty of comments about me only playing nice so I can secure my inheritance.”

“C’mon, people. I see the comments. I’m not getting an inheritance. I have 7 siblings 😂,” she joked. “These thoughts have been on my mind since I last visited her on the east coast. Hilaria has had a far more complex and chaotic upbringing than she lets on and I think that’s why we’ve maybe bonded in someways? She didn’t always feel safe and seen. Sometimes, she is too loyal to a fault.”

The model went on to explain how Hilaria helped Alec turn “his health around” while showing him “the forgiveness and kindness that he needed” throughout their 13-year marriage.

“Hilaria is the reason I am able to have the close relationship with my father that I do,” Ireland also wrote. “She is the reason I get to have siblings/a big family that I’ve always wanted. She has always respected me, accepted my flaws, embraced me, and has always shown me kindness. I met her as a teenager and I needed her as an example. I still very much look up to her now.”

“I CANNOT wait to cheer her a– on,” Ireland added. “She deserves this! And it’s not my place to share the ins and outs, but this woman is a gem and deserves all the love.”
