Drew Barrymore details daughter’s harrowing e-bike accident that led to hospitalization
Drew Barrymore is detailing her daughter’s harrowing electric bike accident that landed her in the hospital for days.
The actress — who shares daughters Olive, 12, and Frankie, 11, with ex-husband Will Kopelman — spoke about the terrifying incident while appearing on Thursday’s episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”
The “Charlie’s Angels” star explained that she had plans to meet up with Colbert’s wife, but had to cancel after her daughter’s fall.
“The last time we were supposed to get together, my daughter ended up having an accident,” Barrymore said, without specifying which daughter she was referring to.
“I was like calling her,” she added, prompting Colbert to ask if her daughter was OK. “She’s fine, yes. Everything’s fine,” Barrymore assured him, before going into detail about the scary scene.
“My daughter, actually, she got in an e-bike accident. In France, which sounds so fabulous,” Barrymore joked. “Yes, so we were in fabulous France and then she had an e-bike accident.”
The “Drew Barrymore Show” host, 50, said that her kid was biking deep in the mountains when she “ripped her whole elbow open.”
“We spent days in an E.R., in and out,” she revealed.
Barrymore went on to share how her savvy daughter figured out how to stop the bleeding from getting any worse.
“She ripped off her bra and turned it into a tourniquet,” Barrymore said in awe.
Colbert expressed how impressed he was, noting that the mom of two must have prepared them for emergency situations.
“No! That’s just who she is,” Barrymore said, adding, “And I just marvel at her.”
Barrymore has raved about her kids on Colbert’s show in the past. In a January appearance on his CBS show, Barrymore described her daughters as her “North Star.”
“They’re really, really good. Every day is different. Every hour is different. They’re my North Star, my compass,” Barrymore said.
She continued, “I love that in the life that I got to live before I knew them, my priorities were different. And ever since I came into the world, I understand what the purpose of my life is. It’s wild.”
Barrymore shared her deep belief that she was “put on this planet to raise girls.”
“I just know that I’m all in and I care so much and I am imperfect, but I’m going to do everything I can to do this to the best of my ability, and it’s fun,” she said. “It’s humorous and it’s delicious and it’s great. And they’re my everything.”
