  • The SNL star weighed in on which of his characters he’d like to have a drink with
  • He also shared his dream guest for Las Culturistas, the podcast he cohosts with Matt Rogers

Bowen Yang says teaming up with Aperol Spritz to celebrate the 2025 U.S. open was a perfect match.

“I remember being on a solo trip once in the Dolomites and I ordered myself a lasagna and an Aperol Spritz, and I was in heaven,” the Saturday Night Live star, who serves as spokesperson for the apéritif brand’s capsule collection of tennis-themed apparel, tells PEOPLE of his love for the orange-flavored cocktail.

Yang, who’s been a cast member on the show since 2019, reflected on which of the numerous characters he’s played in SNL sketches he’d most want to have a drink with.

“George Santos probably,” he says, adding of the disgraced former congressman, “I just want to see what’s going on in that interesting mind of his.”

As for whom he’d least want to share a beverage with, Yang says, “Probably the Iceberg.”

“I think he is just going to make it about him, about how he’s been wronged, and portrayed poorly in the media,” he notes, referring to his 2021 portrayal of an iceberg that sank the Titanic.

“I’m not one to turn down something as beautiful and as sort of, like, communal as a drink with other people,” he continues. “The point is just to sit through it and just get to know someone as the drink sort of finishes its course. So I would be thrilled to drink with any of them.”

Yang, who spoke with PEOPLE from Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, N.Y., also appreciates the welcoming ambiance of the U.S. Open.

AMOS SHIN FOR APEROL

“It is this really open, so to speak, place where you can at any level of your either knowledge of tennis or understanding of what the narratives are, it’s just really enjoyable for everybody,” he says, admitting, “I’m kind of a dilettante when it comes to just knowing and keeping up with what’s going on in terms of the matchups.”

It was at Arthur Ashe last year that Yang tried one of 2024’s biggest food trends, as he recalled on a recent episode of Las Culturistas, the podcast he hosts with Matt Rogers.

“I am at the scene of my first encounter with the viral Dubai chocolate,” he says, calling the chocolate-pistachio confection “a really successful psyop.”

“The way it was presented to me was, ‘Have you tried the viral Dubai chocolate?’ ‘No.’ ‘Well, you must try the viral Dubai chocolate.’”

“It was relentless in a way that I think was very beneficial to it,” he jokes.

There’s another culinary trend Yang is on board with.

“I’m really loving that Boba tea is making a huge comeback among Gen Alpha and Gen Z,” he says. “As someone who grew up in the States in the early aughts when it really popped off the first time, when kids at school would be like, ‘What are you talking about? What are you talking about, tapioca balls are in a big straw?’ I think, I feel very vindicated now as an adult.”

Aside from the U.S. Open, the highlight of Yang’s summer was Las Culturistas Culture Awards, the ceremony he and Rogers hosted with their signature humor in July.

His favorite moment from the event was Ben Platt’s rendition of Addison Rae’s “Diet Pepsi.”

“I think that took us all by surprise, especially me and Matt, and especially Ben,” he says. “I mean, Ben was truly as blown away and as shocked as the rest of us were.”

“He was just kind of texting us throughout that week that it was really popping off being like, ‘Whoa, I can’t believe this is happening,’” he adds.

Recent guests on Las Culturistas include Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Obama and Amy Poehler. But there’s one dream guest Yang still holds out hope for.

“Cher,” he says. “It’s Cher. End of sentence. I mean, I don’t know if she would ever dare to come on, but that would be so fun.”
