5 Hotels Where It’s Likely to Be Filmed

  • HBO’s hit series The White Lotus is reportedly going to be set in France for its fourth season
  • The location marks a return to Europe, as season 2 was filmed in Taormina, Sicily
  • Based on the show’s previous settings, as well as its relationship with Four Seasons hotels, PEOPLE has rounded up all the possible locations where season 4 could be filmed

A fresh batch of uber-rich vacationers are reportedly heading to France for their next White Lotus getaway — but the exact location still remains a mystery.

On Thursday, Sept. 4, it was reported that HBO’s hit drama series The White Lotus would officially be returning to Europe to film its fourth season, according to Deadline

While both HBO and the show’s creator Mike White have yet to confirm the location, the series has reportedly landed on France to be the backdrop for its next chapter. This might come as a surprise to some fans, as rumors swirled the showrunners wanted to hit every continent and season 2 already called another European destination home: the San Domenico Palace hotel in Taormina, Sicily.

There have been hints, however, regarding a return to Europe, as HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi previously told Deadline in February: “I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe.”

Now that a destination has been revealed, it’s highly likely that another Four Seasons property will get the White Lotus treatment, as the show has used the five-star chain’s hotels to film all of its previous three seasons.

Four Seasons and HBO also became marketing partners during season 3, as the network allowed five hotels to host White Lotus viewings, as well as themed pop-up bars for the first time, according to The Wall Street Journal.

However, the show did branch out last season while filming in Thailand, with two Anantara properties and one Rosewood hotel being used as supplementary shooting locations to the main Four Seasons Koh Samui.

That being said, here are the five hotels, Four Seasons and beyond, where season 4 is most likely to be filmed in France.

If the fourth installment of the show is going to follow in the footsteps as previous seasons, then a waterfront location is extremely likely. All three seasons offered stunning, coastal scenery, beginning with season 1, which was filmed at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea in Hawaii.

With this in mind, the storied Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel located in Saint Jean Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera, could serve as the perfect next White Lotus.

While the property boasts “sea views from Nice to Monaco,” per its website, its location is also one that checks out for a wealthy White Lotus vacationer. The French Riviera is known to be a high society destination, and the hotel itself has drawn countless Hollywood stars over the years.

It is important to note that after season 3, White did admit, “I want to get a little bit out of the ‘crashing waves against rocks’ vernacular,” so one of the Four Seasons’ other France locations might be a better fit.

Megève in the French Alps

This brings us to the breathtaking Megève hotel located in the heart of the French Alps. Per the Four Seasons hotel’s website, the location offers endless mountain views with private terraces “perfect for soaking in the fresh Alpine air.”

As the location is nestled on the slopes of Mont d’Arbois, the hotel could serve as the perfect winter escape if White wants to break away from its usual summery setting. The hotel offers a number of cold-weather activities that could be worked into next season’s storyline, including dogsled rides, snowshoeing excursions and of course, skiing.

A winter setting may already be ruled out, however, as the show’s executive producer David Bernad, who also spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about the filming locations for seasons 2 and 3, previously shared that White is not a fan of the cold.

If White really wants to break out of the waterfront location mold, then there’s no better place to do so than in a world-class metropolis like Paris.

The Four Seasons Hotel George V seems like the exact spot a White Lotus vacationer would travel to for a luxurious French getaway. Built in 1928, the historic landmark is located just off the famed Champs-Élysées.

It also offers accommodations that overlook the Eiffel Tower, along with a number of Michelin-starred restaurants located on-site.

Additional Anantara and Rosewood Locations

Seeing as Anantara and Rosewood properties were used last season, the chains’ French locations can’t be overlooked as a possibility for season 4.

Just like the Anantara Bophut Koh Samui and Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas were used for many of the lobby and spa scenes in season 3, it’s possible that the Anantara Plaza Nice Hotel could be intertwined with the Four Seasons’ Grand-Hôtel in the same region to create one large White Lotus resort.

Similarly, the iconic Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel in Paris, could offer an ideal setting in combination with the Hotel George V, if White is going to lean into a city scene next season.

All three seasons of The White Lotus are currently streaming on HBO Max. There has been no word yet on when the next season will premiere.
