NEED TO KNOW
- Miriam Margolyes, known best for her role as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter series, sat down to promote her new book, The Little Book of Miriam
- During the segment, the 84-year-old ate onions and chips, leftover from a previous segment of the show
- Morgolyes encouraged viewers to do “poo tests” for the health benefit of knowing what’s going on in your body
Miriam Margolyes refuses to be anyone but herself, even when she’s on live television.
During a Thursday, Sept. 4 interview with This Morning, while promoting her new book, The Little Book of Miriam, the Harry Potter star, 84, talked about health examinations involving her feces, a famous actor farting on her, along with other outlandish topics, all while chowing down on chips and a raw onion.
Ben Shephard, who co-hosts the daytime talk show alongside Cat Deeley, noted to the guest, “You’re really enjoying those onions, aren’t you?” To which she responded, “They are absolutely superb!”

Although dubbed Britain’s “naughtiest national treasure,” Margoyle did not bring the ceramic plate and snacks from home. Before she sat down with Shephard and Deeley, the actress participated in a cooking segment of the ITV show with Juliet Sears, where onions were clearly in the vicinity.
Fans in the comments section love Margoyle’s unfiltered existence, calling her “TV GOLD.”
“She always makes me laugh. I think she’s lovely & hilarious! Imagine being her lodgers. I would love that,” gushed one commenter. Another even hinted that she should be given one of the highest acknowledgements from the royal family, writing, “I’m bothered that she hasn’t been honoured a damehood yet.”
Margoyles, who’s known on this side of the pond as Professor Sprout from the Harry Potter film series, is well aware of how she comes out to the masses; however, she doesn’t seem to be interested in censoring herself for anyone.
“I don’t mean to be crude,” she told the co-hosts. “I think of myself as quite sophisticated, but out pops these things — what can I do?”
During the segment, she also spoke about doing “a poo test” for herself, in comparison to when dog owners do it for their pets, where she put her feces in a “perfume bag” to bring to her doctor to examine.

“It was vivid,” she said of the examination, though she didn’t want to give too many specifics on the experience. “I just want to tell people that they must have a poo test, because it’s very important, because it could save your life. It went on a little bit longer than expected, that’s all.”
This isn’t the first time Margoyles has made viewers of the popular show clutch their pearls from her unfiltered musings. In 2023, she spoke openly about her sex life and vaginal steaming, all while dropping expletives along the way.
“My friends say I haven’t changed, but I’ve always been as naughty and outspoken as I am now,” she said at the time. “What I have learnt is to be kind. Otherwise, I’m sort of perfect, really. I’m 82, I fart a lot, p— a lot, but I’m still going.”
