12 Celebrity-Inspired Looks to Kick Off Fall and How to Shop Them

It’s that time of year when we slowly start to pack away our summer clothes and haul out our fall staples. But transitioning your wardrobe from one season to the next, should be fun not daunting.

“With any seasonal shopping, you should always take inventory of what you already have in your closet and then figure out what you actually need,” Kenzie Welch, stylist, content creator and trend expert for Kohl’s, tells PEOPLE.

Welch says she encourages the younger generation who is prepping for back to school to not overhaul their closets, but lean in to the pieces they feel the most comfortable in.

“Any young client who’s still in school seems to always fall into the trap of feeling like they need a whole new wardrobe for the school year. However, I try to encourage clients to think more about being intentional and personal with their style. Which means, focus on quality and personalization. Before hitting the stores, have an idea of what style you’re trying to achieve.”

Because it’s our job to find the best in celebrity fashion, we compiled 12 star looks to suit any setting, whether it’s the classroom, cheering on your hometown team on the football field or just a night out with friends. Ahead, get all the inspiration you’ll need — plus how to channel the looks for less.

Lesson on Monochromatics

Our cover girl Emma Myers is everywhere right now — after all, she’s been promoting season 2 of the hit Netflix show, Wednesday. In August, Myers, whose stylist is Jordan Johnson Chung, stepped out in New York City in a bold red Thom Browne skirt suit, but rocking color isn’t exclusively designer. Channel the actress’ bold look with this tailored Intempo blazer and striped Land’s End tie (both from Kohl’s where you can also snag a button-up for a deal), a preppy pleated skirt and Vince Camuto’s bow heels — plus a pair of red frames for an extra hint of cool.

For a muted approach, try replicating Myers’ suede co-ord look from the Fall 2025 Calvin Klein show (left). ASTR the Label’s suede Jude set comes with a Peter Pan collar jacket and shorts that can be worn together or as separates, which means double the outfit choices!

Cool Game-Day Uniforms

Football matches and homecoming scream fall, and who better than Taylor Swift to prove that dressing up for game-day can be as easy as cheering on your friends from the the stands.

For a chilled, laid-back look like Swift’s outfit on the left, go for Uniqlo’s leather jacket (a part of the brand’s fall collection) and a pair of Denim Forum’s frayed boyfriend shorts to show off your cowboy boots (we’re big fans of The Annie boots by Tecovas, which also come in wide-calf sizes).

Another great way to embrace the season is plaid. To recreate Swift’s Vivienne Westwood outfit on the right, style Tuckernuck’s $59 plaid shirt dress with London Rag’s Lug Sole boots and your pick of gold jewelery and sports charms from Kendra Scott. And when those fall nights get chilly, layer a coordinating sweater like the Kohl’s Juniors SO Prep Pullover, a go-to for Kenzie Welch when channeling the “Playful Prep” trend.

Preppy-Punk Please!

The best thing about fall is the layering and if you ask us, sweater vests never went out of style. If you’re looking for ways to incorporate the nostalgic silhouette, look no further than Olivia Rodrigo, who went preppy and punk by mixing patterns and proportions. Try Old Navy’s argyle-print wool blend sweater vest (tip: size up for that oversized look) and FindDress’ pleated tennis skirt in Royal blue (bonus tip: make sure your top and bottoms coordinate in color). Complete the look with a white T-shirt and a buckled luge loafer, like Circus by Sam Edelman’s the Payson.

Say Yes to Suits

Hailey Bieber.

One style that has “class president” written all over it is a suit and someone like Hailey Bieber pulls off the look with ease on the everyday, which means you can too. The choices are endless, so let us break it down. If you’re looking for a classic no-fuss co-ord, Aritzia has multiple versions of their Wilfred suits, such as solid colorways as well as pinstripe and checkered prints. For a refreshed take on inspired menswear, Kohl’s Juniors’ SO features a cropped vest and wide-leg trousers (at $75, the set is a total steal!) that you can make your own with accessories, which is a style tip Welch leans heavily on. “It can be anything from a statement clutch or a fun pair of shoes. It will make you feel more put together and won’t take up all your brain power.”

A Masterclass in Double Denim

Lola Tung.

Layering denim pieces is a fool-proof hack to looking put-together on any given day. Lola Tung here nailed the assignment at a Chanel event during the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in an acid-wash lady jacket and flared jeans in a slightly darker wash. Give the easy outfit formula a try in wallet-friendly pieces by the Gap including its Denim Moto Jacket ($98) and High Rise Relaxed Flare Jeans ($90). Substitute Tung’s heels with a pair of Keds’ crochet lace-up shoes for a vibe just right for the classroom.

Supermodel Sweatsuits

Gigi Hadid.

Hit the snooze button too many times and running late for class? Been there, done that. Gigi Hadid‘s styling of a knitted pull-over and joggers is how you can transform your last-minute outfit into something supermodel-chic. The hack: elevated outwear and boots. Like Hadid, zhuzh up your lounge set with a leather trench coat, like this option from All the Ways or this belted jacket from Chouyuta, on top and slip into a sleek pair of over-the-ankle boots, like Madden’s Girls Monica ankle boots.

Loud Prints with a Nostalgic Spin

Lindsay Lohan.

Lindsay Lohan‘s fashion renaissance was hitting extra hard this summer since she was booked and busy promoting Freakier Friday. Her parade of looks, styled by Andrew Mukamal, pulled inspiration from current runway fashion but also referenced Lohan’s past films, including 1998’s Parent Trap, which is the perfect opportunity for you to channel nostalgia this school year if vintage is your vibe.

This Annie James-inspired tweed look is Balmain and Christian Louboutin from top to bottom, but there are tons of accessible alternatives. Team ASTR the Label’s Metallic Tweed Miniskirt (which also comes in shorts) with Walter Baker’s Bennet Frayed Tweed Blazer (currently on sale at Saks Off Fifth for $89) for a coordinate look or go all in with this $150 pink and black houndstooth shorts jumpsuit from Endless Rose.

Sporty n’ Sweet

Sabrina Carpenter.

When you find yourself working late and want a quick outfit to throw together the next morning, try a sporty look like this one on Sabrina Carpenter which, thankfully, includes both trends and closet staples that are easy to come by.

Complete the outfit with a maxi white bubble skirt (More to Come has one that’s currently on sale for under $50), an Aritzia navy polo shirt (or a striped long-sleeved top for added color) and a pair of the Clarks Bayla Lily Riptate Mary Jane pumps.

Enroll in the Office Siren Trend

Who says the office siren look is only reserved for the boardroom? Although the trend often includes suits and other business-inspired apparel, don’t mistake it for stuffy. Think neutral colorways mixed with bold prints and lean into non-traditional silhouettes, much like Doechii and her stylist, Sam Woolfe, have done on the red carpet and the stage.

This look on the rapper, worn for her performance at the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge launch party, is a great starting point. Build your look off of Zara’s hooded khaki jacket and incorporate elements including (but not limited to) pleated skirts or trouser shorts, a necktie, knee high-socks, your choice of footwear and bayonetta glasses like this affordable pair off Amazon.

Loungewear 101

Anok Yai.

Christian Vierig/Getty

If you’re someone who puts comfort first, you might resonate with Anok Yai. The model may be known for her glamorous red carpet flair, but off-duty, you’ll often see her in outfits that are easy to wear and simultaneously fashionable.

Case in point: instead of dressing up with grandeur for Paris Fashion Week, she instead wore a loose-fitted velour jumpsuit dressed up with just the right accessories to catch the eye. When you break it all down, Yai’s look truly only needs three items! Start with a comfy one-piece, like Abercrombie & Fitch’s knitted zip suit or Cupshe’ Corduroy Wide-Leg Overalls and pair it with head-turning sneakers such as Adidas’ silver Tokyo sneakers are shoo-in and accessories like Gorjana’s gold necklaces that, when styled together, make one epic stack.
