A 4-year-old crying boy was snatched from his mother at Miami International Airport by a woman who allegedly offered to help him, according to multiple reports, citing a report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, as the boy was crying while standing with his mother at a checkpoint, according to Fox News, CBS News Miami, The Miami Herald, and WPLG-TV, citing the sheriff’s office’s report.

Alvina Omisiri Agba, 23, allegedly approached the mother-son duo and offered to calm him down. The mother agreed to allow Agba to hold her son. However, after the mother handed him over, Agba allegedly walked out of the line and began to walk away, according to the outlets.

The child’s mother soon followed them and asked for Agba to return her son, to which she allegedly replied, “No, this is my child,” as she wrapped her arms and legs around him, preventing him from moving, according to the sheriff’s report.

The mother attempted to take her son back, but Agba allegedly pushed her and grabbed the boy’s leg and refused to let go.

At that point, a bystander, later identified as Naylet Montano, who is also a mother, ran to see what was going on and “noticed a woman on the floor, strongly gripping the little boy,” she told CBS News Miami.

“In that moment, I realized the body was in danger. I grabbed him and ran. The woman on the ground got up and tried to take the boy back from me. I wouldn’t let her,” recalled Montano.

“I ran behind the counter and crouched down to protect the boy. She tried to get under the counter,” she said.

Agba allegedly followed Montano and demanded that she hand back the boy. Three men reportedly then stood between the two, preventing Agba from taking the child away from Montano.

While Agba ran away, she was found at checkpoint 5 by police, where she was taken into custody, CBS News Miami reported. She reportedly said that she was trying to calm the boy down by taking him to a wall with a rainbow and then claimed that she took the child because God told her to, according to the outlets citing the sheriff’s report.

Jail records reviewed by PEOPLE show that Agba was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $3,500 bond. She has been charged with battery and interference with custody.
